How high do you need the wood stands to be? 9" ? 13" ? 18"?

You could do 9"+9" stands = 18".

FWIW he mentioned sitting primarily in the second row, and estimated ear height about 18" above current speaker position....

My question would be what row is the MLP? If it is the first row and the towers are at ear height for that row, I wouldn't do anything.

If not, then your platform is the simplest and cheapest way to get the job done.

2nd row. I measured the top tweeter is 18" below my ears, and you can see the chairs in the front row tend to block some of the sound.

Yeah, get 4 of the 9" stands.

I love these VTI modular stands. They come in 7", 9", 13" height and a few different colors. You can stack them to the height you need. I use them for a lot of things - audio racks, end tables, night stands. They just look great for everything.

My 110 LBS ATI amps sit on them. So definitely strong and stable.

Wow. Thanks! Whatever I end up buying for my music room, it won't need to support 110 lb amps... I will pass this on to my daughter who is designing my music room with me - I am going for an old school 70's look, whatever that is.

But four 9" tables are exactly what my media room speakers need.
