Once again: what are you listening to now? Part 2.

Does this include a 5.1 remix? Wondering how much improvement this is over the original LP?
This SACD is "hybrid" but only includes 2 channel playback on both layers. No 5.0 playback. Mobile fidelity currently only has one multichannel SACD in their catalogue.

"Wondering how much improvement this is over the original LP?" I listened to this album hundreds of times back in the early 70's. I wondered how the SACD would sound the first time I played it. I was very impressed. Mobile Fidelity does an awesome job of extracting everything that exists on the original analog master and then capturing that using DSD. The SACD sounds so good you would "almost" think it was recorded digitally in the first place. What blew me away with their mastering was the sound stage. They put the drums right in the middle. I mean RIGHT in the middle. The snare drum is heard from the right, Tom Tom dead center, and floor Tom out of the left speaker. The first time the drummer went from snare to Tom Tom to floor Tom I was shocked. I never remember my LP back in the 70's sounding like that. At any rate, this SACD sounds great.

Well, that ain't happening. ;) lol

However, what I am willing to do is tip you to stuff I think may be worth your time investment.

Frankly, I can think of several things I think you'd like based on the little back and forth we have had here.

agree :p

This is why I spend so much time in these threads, a great source of new to me music. This is my least posted in site. (Mostly because out of spin threads the name calling and language is terrible and the site bias exhibited prohibits response.)

Absolutely. @lovinthd , I am sure, and I are well aware of this piece.

Not to sound audiophool (we are allowed to say that here, go figure) but I never really appreciated this work until I heard it on my big stereo in SACD.
That's fine. T'was only a humble request. I'll just not be listening to a lot of your posts. No biggie. :)

Not sure why you added all the (mildly insulting) extra stuff about this forum. Unless you're trolling and trying to create another mess again...

Why not both?
if it were easy, I would.

Plus, at least me, I don't want to use, what may be, a crappy You Tube and ruin it for someone when I am listening from a CD.

also, like I said, you just can't please everyone because between the mini reviews being demanded, the link being requested, the artwork that I feel is appropriate and the info, I think imperative..... I'd get less work done than I do now.

Many of the classical CD's I listen to were purchased in the 80's and 90's and are now out of print and not even on the market as being used. Finding art work is next to impossible. Finding a link to the recording even more so. Because I like the artwork, I take the time to find it. I do not listen to music online and am not going to spend the time to see if I can find it. I figure if someone wants to know what the disc sounds like, I've given them enough with the artwork to look it up themselves. Bottom line, not enough time!

Fair enough. If they're difficult to find then I s'pose no one will listen to them! :p I guess I misunderstood the purpose of this thread.

I do appreciate the effort @eljr puts into the descriptions and artwork. I just figured if all that effort was put into it, including a link to the recording would be a piece of cake. Not so much I guess if they're too difficult to find.

I was careful to not post anything insulting, except to myself. I do think it important, to highlight when appropriate the unevenness in the hopes of positive change.

No one noticed? My crusade is for civility, not divisive insulting language?

and on another site, as I said, they don't understand why I don't write a review for each spin.

BTW, I do occasional post You Tube, when that is what I am listening to.

You know, instead of derailing another thread trying to explain to you how your verbage is insulting while you pretend not to understand I'm just going to block you. All I did was make a simple request which is apparently too burdensome for you. I didn't ask for an explanation about how you rarely post here because we're a bunch of foul mouthed, group think schoolyard assholes.

I am shocked at this reply. Absolutely shocked.

sorry you read my post wrong, I will go back and adjust it

I thought the purpose of this thread was, "What new music have you found that you'd like to share? What old album(s) have you recently pulled out that suddenly sound great again? Or just list the last dozen or so discs you listened to."

If "sharing" means I have the responsibility of putting a link to the music or imbedding a video, etc. I apologize. I didn't read that into the original post by "Hawkeye" (the person who starting the "Once again: what are you listening to now" thread) In fact, he didn't do it either. He just listed the titles of a number of discs.

I said that I must have misunderstood the purpose of the thread. It's easy to do when 98% of the posts have a link to the music...

Then what was the purpose of the emoticon? Hit me as sarcasm.

OK, got it now. I know nothing about using emoticons. I'm a dinosaur when it comes to how people now communicate with technology. I've been using computers since the 70's in manufacturing, but I have not bothered with any social media, cell phones, smart phones, etc. since then, and I honestly don't care to. I am an official "old fart." What threw me was the tongue sticking out.

Apocalyptica: Inquisition Symphony.

This is an interesting band that some of you may also have heard of. They're classically trained cellists heavy metaled up.

*Edit: Track 2 is a cover of a "Refuse/Resist" by Sepultura! A very well done cover too.
Ps. Oops, that whole album are cover songs. derp

I have found a lot of things I listen to because links were posted. It's not a big deal either way and some reminders do come via a mere mention.

I think youtube is great and I do listen to entire albums. There is one that youtube provides with "Topic" listed in the post credit that will not only have the album, but more often than not, all of what is available on youtube by that artist and mostly in HD. Not that the HD really dictates the sound quality, but that the downloads were presented from the best available quality download.

"Here" is an example of a library of artists recording on youtube. When I am looking for a certain title, I will go down through the page and search for the "Topic" download and go through ALL the albums. I have been sent on some most enjoyable marathons of listening by users links here. lovinthehd has posted entire albums that I just listen to the end because it only took one click while I was doing other things.

On the other hand, I listen to mostly Jazz at home because I listen to classic stuff all day long at work and I have been through decades of repeats with those genres. Not to mention what the mainstream tends to do with the popular music ad nauseam. Every once in a while I'll get nostalgic and revisit the parts of the albums that did not get a lot of mainstream air time, but mostly now, it's in search of new material and much of which tends to be somewhat underground, comparatively. I don't post too many because I realize that Jazz is one of the least popular followings in the mainstream.

ETA: In spite of the common thought that free air listening does nothing for the artists royalties, I have bought a lot of CD's for test driving albums on youtube.

Oftentimes you get the album artwork, track listing and other info from those topic links as well. It's one of the best ways to share music, imo. I mean, you post it because you want people to hear it, right?

I like to think that folks are actually listening to some of the stuff I post so I make it easy by including a link to the recording. I also don't just throw any link up if I can help it. I'll listen to a couple of versions to make sure the audio is good. There are some very nice sounding albums on youtube.
