Hi Guys, back again with question about surround speakers. I had a mix and match setup up to a monthly h ago when I found a used energy center speaker, the c10,which really cured my front problems. I was using a klipsch c 250, which was simply overpowering everything. The old adage is true - keep your front speakers matched. A tough lesson to learn. Well, now I think my surrounds are in the same boat. I was using klipsch Re 14 IIsx but went to the R15ms thinking that a mono speaker might work better. And in truth they work well in movie settings but don't do anything when listening to music, which is 90 percent of my listening time. So the question is this: my receiver doesn't have dolby pro logic (deno n S910w), so I'm using either dolby surround, or DTS Neuro X. The DTS is louder but still doesn't do much for stereo inputs. question, do I invest in larger dipole surrounds or do I just grin and bear it? And if other speakers are the answer, what recommendations do you suggest. THanks for hanging with my tirade.

Matching surrounds isn't as critical as the front 3. They're meant mainly for surround effects and don't generally get a lot of play compared to the fronts.

As far as music, I don't like listening to music in multi channel. Most of it is mixed and recorded in stereo and is intended to be played back in stereo. Multi channel messes up the stereo image.

Thanks pogre! Sound advice! I got so used to pro logic that I keep trying to duplicate it and just get frustrated. I guess I've got to stick to stereo output for music, but do feel like I spent a lot of money for nothing. Thanks though for bringing out the truth about how music is recorded in most cases. And you may have saved my pocketbook some stress as well.

Ed,

I have a Denon AVR-S900W, and was surprised to hear they dropped Dolby Pro-Logic on the S910W. But then I noticed they added Dolby Atmos, so I guess it evens out if you use the latter. I could never get the WAF high enough for ceiling speakers!

Check out page 121 in your manual for the various setups for Stereo inputs. You can go to Stereo, Dolby Surround, DTS Neural:X; or Multi Ch Stereo from the "Music" button the remote. Of course there are other setups using the Game or Movie Button. Cycle through them all. You may like one or two.

If I'm doing something and just want sound I often use Multi Ch Stereo. I don't have much time fore serious Music listening, but when I do it's usually a Blu Ray Concert Disk in DTS HD Master or Dolby TrueHD. They can be amazing. ;)

Thanks Jim, I really liked the pro logic and find that denons solution of dolby surround, and even DTS neural don't hack it for music listening. I did find that getting larger surrounds (fluance) really helped the movie watching though, but true surround is still a way off in my thinking.
Thanks for taking the time to reply. I do appreciate it.
