Random clicks in Yamaha A1070

Hi.

Got my a1070 instead of a860 a couple of days ago. I went for this replacement due to 'weak' a860 pre outs. Did not feel a problem with it but in theory at high spl it could produce more distortion than required. So. New yamaha is quite a bit larger and heavier. With my anthem mca 525 it should work better. I tried it sounds great. A bit louder with all the same settings. Maybe i hear a bit more details. But not sure 100%.

What i also hear. Is very quiet single clicks at random moments. Tried to listen to the same songs twice and it doesnt repeat. Sound similar to when you change inputs in yamaha but 50 times less loud. What can it be? Checked speaker connections. Seems ok. Interconnects the same i used with a860.

Random (and not loud) clicks is a strange one.
How frequent are they?

Do you still have the a860? If so, you might hook it up to verify that the clicks weren't there before (you may have been listening more closely after the new AVR). You know how obvious the sound is and how closely you listened to the A860 before, so this may not make sense. I'm just trying to think of something to help troubleshoot.

What is upstream from the AVR? Are you playing CD's? Have you verified it is not linked to the source?

Maybe @TLSGuy or @M Code might have some ideas. I am not sure they would bother to look at a thread with this title, but pretty sure they would check it if it was titled "Random clicks from AVR", so I notified them.

If it is coming from the AVR it is hard to say what the problem is. However, if the AVR is generating these clicks it should be returned pronto. The most serious issue would be a bad chip or other semiconductor that has impurities in it, and allowing some random discharge through the device. This is not terribly rare. However if this is the problem then that device is soon headed for total failure.

Checked with both CD and Tidal streaming. Happens once in 5 or more minutes. Watched movie from Netflix and did not hear any clicks at all. Listened to another cd and noticed just 1 click. When i replay exactly the same place another time cant reproduce the issue again. The problem is that it is very quiet click. First i thought it just seems to me. But my others in my family noticed that too. My mother in law asked if i heard this strange transition between instruments solo. At about the same time when i heard that click.

A860 is sold already((( but it looks the issue does not depend on source...

Just heard a couple of more clicks. One in mid range. Another in lf from subwoofer. Also most clicks happen in the first 30 min after switching system on.

1 more hour. No clicks. It might be a problem to replace this avr. Dealer might say all is fine.

How new is it? Here most dealers will take a return if it is within 14 days (most 30). If they have an website check return policy. You may have to eat shipping one-way if it is on-line purchase.
Don't know if those return policies are common in UK.

Normally 30days. But dealer will try to reproduce the issue and if they cant i will need to pay for shipping both ways or one way and money back. In this case i paid 899 as for discounted a1060. New a1070 costs 1299£(((

That piece improving with time means you most likely do have a bad IC somewhere. It could also be a bad cap. I'm certain that unit is headed for more trouble. It needs to be replaced. Since this is such an intermittent problem you need to insist on replacement and NOT repair.

If you don't get a new unit you will be receiver shopping again pretty soon.

Right. Will push for replacement on monday. Do you think it is just my instance or all a1070 are likely to have this problem?

Forgot to mention. With a1070 when you change volume or input the clicks are much more pronounced than in a860. Not sure if that is related.

I doubt other units have the problem and if they do they are are in the junk category.
As to the second question I have no idea. As regards the first you could do an Internet search and see of there are other reports of this problem.

Not much reviews on yamaha xx70 yet. It came out just last month. Also. Can it be firmware issue?

With more features, I'm wondering if Yamaha inadvertently introduced a problem? The A1070 seems like my A1020 plus the additions of Atmos, bluetooth, wi-fi. Make things more complicated and at the assembly line perhaps chaos! Just my 2-cents. :D

Go into the OSD and turn OFF ECO Mode..
Try this and post back if the clicking goes away..

Just my $0.02... ;)

I highly doubt it is firmware. The warm up issue makes this a hardware problem.

Since it is so new it is possible these units are duds.

Does the unit has a fan? I just wonder if it does than may be the fan is controlled on/off by a tiny relay that could produce a tiny click.

Is there a way to check if it has a fan?
