I purchased a Pioneer VSX-LX102 7.2 with ATMOS and a Definitive Technology Center Channel CS9040 and would like some opinions regarding front/rear/height and subs. I'm looking at purchasing 6 Definitive Technology Studio Monitor 55 speakers to cover everything and 2 Klipsch 10" powered subs. I don't have a lot to spend and I'm going to probably catch a lot of heat for this but am purchasing everything through best buy. Would it be better to just go with a 5.1 setup or get the Definitive Technology Tower Speakers and not get separate subs.

That is what I was thinking as well, I know that the definitive technology towers have powered subs built in but due to the cost and if a sub happened to go out I don't want to replace and entire tower. What are your thoughts on mixing brands of speakers vs. same brand. I know I do not want to use Definitive Technology subs they are pricy and if I do separate subs I want to run 2 of them.

the key for me is for the front channels to blend (match). If you step down to the Definitive SM 45 for heights and something like the Sony Core bookshelf for surrounds it will save some money. The Definitive subs are too expensive for what you get, and not worth their price.

If you are not locked into Best Buy for your subs -- then there sure will be better options for good subwoofers. If you are locked into Best Buy for your subs then 2 of the Klipsch R-110SW can be OK for you -- if funds permit then look at the 12 inch Klipsch

Thanks for your feedback, I agree the subs are to pricy and I didn't think about just getting an off brand rear channel only. Something to think about though. Best Buy has a deal on klipsch 10" subs right now so that's why I'm leaning that direction.

I'd see if the BB store could get SVS subs...how much do they want for the Klipsch 10"s?

I do believe they have SVS subs the klipsch are 150 I believe. I will have to double check on the price to make sure

Yeah, at that price quite a bit less than SVS.....

I'd order something from hsu before spending $300 on two klipsch subs. For an extra $100 you can get a VTF-1 MK3 that will blow two R-10SW away.

Can’t help you with the speaker selection, but a 7.1 system is best used in a room where is some distance between the seating and back wall. If that’s not your situation, then stick with 5.1.
