I would drill into the speakers for security, put your own threaded inserts in if you want a clean look. Of course there's a youtube for it

I put a small screw into each of my Definitive Technology SM55 speakers on wall mounts. I wasn't gonna see first but I wanted them secure and I didn't like them just sitting up there on wall mounts. It actually worked out perfectly so far. If I ever want to sell them I might have screwed myself I guess. Never thought of that though.

I'm half tempted to bungee those bad boys! :p

I really do like that idea. The thought of me drilling into that beautiful piano black finish makes me cringe though. If I slip and the bit skitters across my speakers... I s'pose it'd be worse if I heard a crash and one of them was on the floor cracked in half.:eek:

Either that or I can find different mounts with better articulation. Parts Express a good place to start looking?

Isn't there a puddy or something that you can use for this purpose? I remember people suggesting that when I asked about securing my SM 65s to the stands upfront. I forget what it's called though.

KEW already suggested it about 5 or 6 replies ago: get some Cheez Whiz and a little Saran Wrap and you are done. Top Flight redneck engineering.

I am not sure I could make myself drill holes in your piano black finished speakers.
Nope. I checked and I couldn't do it.

Ok that sounds strange. I'm hoping that's joke and to get the real stuff.

Museum putty is one name, blu-tac is a specific type. Not sure it would work the way he's got so little contact surface, tho....

Blu-tac that's the one, that's the one suggested to me.

Bungees or straps....

Those mounts you have are the same type I've used, didn't find one with much better articulation/angling last I looked. I did buy some straps as once I considered mounting the mounts upside down for a ceiling thing....

Speaker crashing to the floor would be painful....more painful than drilling....

Could use a cable or light chain, to make a lanyard? I do like the idea of the threaded inserts too, and these Omni mounts might do it. Iirc, your ultras are 19lbs.

Hey Bill! Don't see you 'round these here parts as often! I put them back into a much safer position. I flipped 'em upside down and have them level on that clamp now. The tweets are still a little high, but it beats a broken speaker.
Also, since we're on the topic. I was meaning to ask for awhile now about your mains. In your pics (very generous btw) they look very far apart which is fine, but I'm wondering about imaging, and center image. For example, in stereo, is the vocalist in the center etc.
I forgot to reply to this post yesterday. The towers do retain that pinpoint imaging that the bookshelf speakers have. There are a couple of times I actually stood up and put my ear close to the center channel because I was sure the vocals were coming out of it. They're awesome. As far as I can tell they have everything the bookshelfs did, with a wider soundstage and just a general overall meatiness in the mid range/mid bass region.

humor is so tough on forums sometimes.
Yes Hetfield, it was humor. Don't go stickin' Cheez Whiz on stuff

J, maybe you missed my message? I took my family camping for a few days. It was right as you were taking delivery, and setting up your ultra towers(UTS?). I didn't get to post much but it was fun to see, and I'm glad you're enjoying them.

Screws in the bottom? Who cares!

Better than injuring loved ones and friends.... or worse, the speaker itself!!

I kind of agree. They're only speakers. Relatively speaking. I do understand not wanting to pierce their skin though too. I say "screw it"!
