Finding best crossover points for 5.1 setup.

Audysey setup is turned off on my system - all settings are now manual. I can set the center distance manually but I really use 5.1 at all times on my system, so have all my front speakers at same distance. I have rug on floor and cloth seating, which helps a lot. I think one major problem which no one has addressed is the size of this room. I think the CF 70's are too large for this room. I should have gone with the CF 50's but got carried away with the 3 way. So I'm trying to make these work and save on capital outlay.

Audyssey can be useful to set up your delays/levels in the automatic sense (and "distance" quoted in feet isn't always the same as the delay it really represents due to the speakers/room interactions). Are all your front speakers actually the same distance to your listening position? What are the room dims and actual distances from speakers to your primary listening position? Have you tried your center without the reflections off the cabinet by pulling the baffle to the edge of the cabinet?

You are way out of my league my friend. But I am trying to understand. I will move my center and see or rather try to hear the difference. I rely appreciate your interaction and time working with me. So here goes - center speaker forward.

Sorry. Distance settings are actually delay setting for timing the signal to your ears... Having your center where it can reflect off a surface in front of it is generally not a good idea. Re-run Audyssey with changes in speaker positions....you might also aim the center up at your listening position if you aren't already doing so. Likewise, adjusting the toe-in of your speakers can make a difference, too.

I can not believe it! I am still learning at this age. Thanks for opening my thick skull a bit. Moving the center to the edge did wonders. So much for Dolby webpage. So measuring again with audyssey will bring proper delays into play, and take care of the difference in inches. The center is already tilted to the same height of tweeters in mains. I am so glad you put up with me today. You have been a great help. Thanks again
