Appreciate you suggestion guys.. with AA Philharmonics I don't need sub right. Do you think I can live with these in main and 201 for the time being at rear.
I have noticed that once I set the Receiver to 5.1 mode the Bass reduces considerably. In 2.1 or DolbyPrologic mode it still exists.

@AaM Jay The AA speakers will do okay without a sub, they have decent low end (but not sub territory but then few speakers do that anyways). A sub in a typical apartment with crappy construction will likely be an issue with neighbors (now if you had cement walls/ceilings/floors....).

The 201s may not be great but they're paid for, as are the 161s. I'd simply save up for a while. I'm confused why the 161s used as surrounds (they're not rear surrounds in a 4.0 configuration) had anything to do with Atmos, tho.

Sorry for the thread hijack or the speakers? OP hasn't complained if it's the former, but you can always start a thread....so what did Atmos have to do with using surrounds?

That was a mistake to buy, I thought they can still work good as a speaker for rear sound before I heard. It sounded terrible and I just returned. That was stupidity by me.

This is up to you, considering what you're running with mains now it will seem like you added subs. I think anything that sounds better and these will definitely sound much better is a great step forward.

Well, you weren't running 5.1 and I'm guessing you didn't run the setup utility be it Audyssey or whatever Yamaha uses.

If you just plugged it in and expected it to sound great, welcome to the world of multi-channel AVR's. Back in the 2ch only days this was easy.

Still, a surround speaker doesn't need to do a lot, and the 161s for surrounds should have been fine so I wonder if you got something like polarity reversed (or just got some bad speakers)....side surrounds are in a 5ch setup; rear surrounds in a 7ch setup....still don't understand the connection you're making to Atmos.

Not stupid, it's all part of the learning process and we all make mistakes. I could tell you plenty of mine that would have you in stitches.

As I said above about ATMOS, I purchased those by mistake thinking that my receiver does support ATMOS while it is not, so returned them.

Now All I have is
201s and 161s + Yamaha RXV 479

Atmos at this point is out and trust me you're a ways away from going Atmos so getting rid of the 201's and 161's in favor of better sounding speakers is a great way to start. Or keep the 201's for the rears and upgrade the rears when the budget allows, we all go through the wishing we could do it all now blues.

No, my issue in mis-remembering your first post about the Onkyo SKH410 things (which I wouldn't use even if I had an Atmos-capable avr).

I honestly think the Yamaha (not a bad AVR at all), the AA's and the 201's for the rears for now will sound pretty good. Just remember when you plug them in, set the amp speaker assignments which means saying no to center channel and no to subwoofer then use the Yamaha's calibration system to set the speakers up.

I haven't ordered from him, but I would think within a day. Whatever it is, it'll be worth the wait. They're about the best you can buy for the money according to many folks here. Dennis worked at and helped design speakers for Salk Sound, a very reputable high end speaker manufacturer. He's the real deal.

You always expect an email response in such a short time? You need to have some patience, he's a small operation. Will shipping cost make a huge difference to your decision?
