Denon Avr-s910w video dropping out....HELP!!!!!

i bought a denon avr-s910w less then 30 days ago from accessories 4 less. well it seems that it has started to develop an issue the last week or so to where the video will go out but i sill have sound. then i comes back on again. it seems to do this often. so i thought it was my tv , so i hooked my xbox 1 s directly to the tv and it stopped. so im starting to think that its the denon. what happens is.....there will be a green bar flash at the bottom of the screen and then a few secs later...screen goes black then a few secs later it pops back up again. does this over and over. i have new hdmi 2.0 (its a long run of 25 ft) any ideas of what is happening???

Could be an hdmi handshake issue. Did you do a microprocessor reset?

ps Sometimes a simple soft reset may do the trick (unplugging it for a while)

Hard reset is microprocessor/factory reset. Keep in mind you generally lose your settings when you do a hard reset....

I have an x2000 denon, same issue, I have a 15' hdmi 18 gbps cable. What mine does is blink after 5 to 10 minutes of turning on system, cable or blue ray, Then it goes away for the most part. Once in a while it will come back for a brief time. I have tried using different settings and reset. What seems to work is un plugging the tv hdmi while it is on and re-plugging ( a few seconds). This usually will suppress issue for a period of time. I have a denon 1913 with the same hdmi cable and does not blink.

This is bad news.

Those of you having problems please do a reset back to factory default and report back.

Unfortunately it seems that Denon Marantz are having a nasty spike of HDMI board problems right now.

We need to follow this closely. Denon Maramtz receivers and pre/pros have been a top recommendation on these forums for some time. If this problem is becoming prevalent then most of us will have to rethink this.

This is really unfortunate as it will leave Yamaha as the only recommendation. I do not have a lot of confidence in Onkyo or Pioneer right now.

I have been worried about this trend for sometime.

I do think that if you have a good older 2K receiver do not change it out for a 4k one. 4K will get you no significant improvement and may well buy you a ton of trouble.

I have been concerned for a couple of years now, that we may enter a time when the best option is a DIY pre/pro based on an HTPC as a foundation. This is a rising endeavor in the DIY world due to what seems to be deteriorating quality control of marketed units.

I think it is time for the industry to market more up market gear in this area with certified aircraft grade components.

The other issue is that receiver and pre/pro need to concentrate on reliable core functions and NOT features. Any customer can add any features and devices up stream.

This industry needs to take some steps back and do a huge reassessment. If not this market will get a lot smaller than it already is.

So here is my question. I bought my reciever from accessories 4 less. The told me they won't take it back as a return unless it's in the original box. We'll poop.... My gf recycled it last week. Can I call denon and get it sent back to them?

See if you can buy a new box from Denon. Even then since it does not have the original bar codes, Accessories for less may still not accept it. There are risks of refurbs.

Your only option may be to buy and new HDMI board and install it.

The next problem is that I understand D & M HDMI boards are hard to come by right now.

Last but not least equipment like this does not travel at all well without the factory container. It is pretty difficult to get warranty service without a factory container.

I have located the part your receiver likely needs. It is $238 and a special order. Full compass does no have any. If you can't get warranty service, or carry out this service yourself it will be cheaper to recycle this unit and start from scratch. You only paid $329 for the receiver.

This highlights the problem though. These receivers are far too cheap, and prices need to rise drastically to return quality and reliability to the market place.

Well that is more bad news. In what way was your box different?

I edited my post and did find a source for the HDMI board the OP is likely going to need. It is only $90 less than he paid for his receiver.

That was very fair of them. I suppose you have to buy the same receiver. If that one develops a problem though, you will still not have a box.

Part of all this problem is the changing HDMI/HDCP specs. As we move to newer versions the HDCP encryption is more draconian and the repeater rate has been increased. This means much more work for the HDMI boards and more heat generation which kills.

When you get your new receiver make sure it is very well ventilated and consider a cooling fan.

I would not get in any deeper with a refurb.

I would get the same receiver and send the other one back.

Since this is already a refurb, I suspect they will deep six your unit. If that is the case, ask them if they would be good enough to send you the empty box back, so you can return the next one, should that fail.

The Denon refurb box is somewhat plainer, different graphics, slightly different internal packaging as well. Whoever Denon contracts out to certify the refurbs (Panurgy IIRC) seems to sometimes just repackage them after a return (based on various forum reports of similar issues on Denon refurbs, including my own). Would be nice if the manufacturing and QC standards were better....

Definitely not Onkyo. I still think it comes down to Denon Marantz or Yamaha. If you are going to get a different receiver, buy one at least or preferably above the mid price point of the range.

The bottom half and may be a bit more of all manufacturers are problematic and best avoided. The $800 to $1200 MRSP range is probably the sweet spot now.
