Connect the Xonar U7 to your laptop via usb.

Three 3.5mm cables should have come with the speakers or the soundcard.

Connect the three 3.5mm cables from the soundcard to the back of the subwoofer. I do not know which cables go in which hole - read your manuals for that.
Yeah, if you are using a digi coax or an optical out from the Asus, then it really defeats the entire point of the Asus (i.e. you are bypassing the better DAC from the Asus).

all speakers work on netflix, but anything else is 2.1
Depends if the movie music was recorded in multi-channlel format i.e. 5.1. Not all are recorded as so. Look for an option like "All Stereo/Speakers" if you want 2.1 going to all speakers.

Sounds like your gear doesn't upmix 2.0 to 5.1 then. Or you need to go thru your sound options to see if there is such an option.

On the Logitech control console you can press the Effect button to get 4.1 (no center speaker) not sure why they don't have all speakers.

The Xonar U7 is your soundcard. It has the outputs.

You would have to get rid of the Logitech system all together and purchase/connect speakers directly off the Asus sound device.

The Asus speaker outputs are most likely low-level signals therefore you would need speakers with internal power amps which will have power adapters and be a bit convoluted with wires everywhere and not to forget to purchase a subwoofer to connect to the SPDIF. I went through the same years ago with regrets now I use an AVR, nothing easier and better this route.

Watch out you don't make it go up in smoke before it's all figured out.

Pretty much only Netflix streams in Dolby Digital Plus 5.1. Amazon requires their proprietary Fire Stick, which I will not purchase. In practice the Dolby algorithms work quite well when streaming 2 channel that was mixed down from 5.1. However this requires a receiver or pre/pro that has those licensed algorithms.

Don't let it get you down, but you may need to start at the beginning and go thru the steps again. Make sure all settings/connections are right. Unless its defective the problem lies in the setup and you just need to figure out where its going wrong...a little research/learning is a good thing, tho.

there has to be another way then spdif
felipe, you got it all figured out? If not, I would confirm the following:

- The latest Asus Xonar drivers are installed.
https://www.asus.com/us/Sound-Cards/Xonar_U7/HelpDesk_Download

- The Asus Xonar device is selected in Windows > Control Panel > Sound

- The Asus Xonar software settings has both S/PDIF (not Speakers) and Dolby selected.

The Logitech should automatically detect the Dolby audio coming from the Asus.
