AVR Recommendations

Hello,

New member here. I'd like to start off by saying I am by no means an audiophile and am completely lost when it comes to AVRs. I recently purchased a SVS Ultra bookshelf surround package and an SB2000 sub. I'm looking for a good AVR to complement my system.

I will be using it for about 30% movies and 70% gaming/music. My budet is about $1k but I'd be willing to stretch it to $1200. I plan on adding another sub down the road. Not sure if I want to do atmos or not.

I'm currently looking at the Denon 4200. I just want to make sure I'm getting the best bang for my buck. I'm also open to reciever and amp combos.

Nice choice on a speaker package, I hope you enjoy them for a long time.
The Denon 4200 AVR is a very capable option for your system.
- Yamaha and Denon's big sister Marantz are two other solid brands IMHO.
- The key to selecting an appropriate AVR is picking one with the right connection/codec set, adequate power, a decent user interface, and a good reputation for reliability.

Advise not spending any more than necessary on an AVR. AVRs are NOT long-term investments like speakers.
- Buying an AVR refurbished at A4L is a cost effective option, saving several hundred $ below your budget top end.

After browsing A4L I found the Denon 3200 for 499. Is that a good deal? Seems to be very similar to the 4200. At that price I could pick up my second SB2000 sooner than later.

Biggest difference off the top of my head is only Audyssey XT in the 3200 rather than the much better (IMO) XT32 in the 4200; if considering another sub the SubEQ feature (allowing separate delay and level for the two subs) is nice. A consideration for the newer generation of Denons (the 4300/3300) is the app for tweaking Audyssey curves....

I agree.

The advantage would be Audyssey XT32 over XT, which can help to better EQ your speakers and is a plus for subs, especially dual subs. Otherwise, unless the X4200W has a feature that you want, go for the X3200W.

Just to add to what others are saying about the advantages of XT32/SubEQHT, the X4200W also has a better DAC chip, same as the one in the Marantz 2015 flag ship model SR7010.

It most likely won't result in audible difference, but it feels good to know there is an AK4458 on board.

I've narrowed it down to the Denon 4200 or Marantz SR7010. I think I'll go with the 4200 off A4L since it's only $799 unless anyone has any objections?

Dang. Too bad it's in store pick up and they're sold out.

I ended up going with the Marantz SR7010. Mainly because all the Denon orders I tried wouldn't ship to me.
