JBL LS 60 - Impulse buy:

What can I say, I'm a sucker for a deal. These listed at $1100 each and have real wood veneer at $300.

I rationalized that I can compare them vs my Klipsch RF-82ii's and keep the ones that I prefer; however, I have a history of liking aspects of (and keeping) both, so we shall see.

There are a couple of interesting points about these speakers so I hope to start a little conversation in the speaker section:

Kobe is a place, but Kobe beef refers to a strain of Waygu beef.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kobe_beef
If I read it correctly Kobe is a very much controlled cow breed and liniage of Waygu cows raised and grown in Kobe region of Japan. Kobe beef - is the real deal - it is controlled in most strict way possible.

To me it seems like calling this meat as (like Costco does) "Authentic japanese Waygu beef" is akin to selling "authentic sparking wine from france". Nothing wrong with that per-se, but I'd rather buy champagne for high price, but sparking wine for totally other (and much lower). There must be something special in these grapes fields in Champagne region? right?

Meet the little terror that has been keeping me on my toes since Friday

She is currently strongly protesting being put in her playpen even though it has her favored toys, a nice comfy bed, and all other amenities. Apparently she'd much rather run wild and try to gnaw off one of my toes :D
Adorable!

I really don't understand your confusion. You can buy a Black Angus steak, simply meaning it is meat from a Black Angus cow. Same for Waygu. For high fat content and marbling, the Waygu is genetically disposed to be better.

Now take a Waygu cow, feed it beer, massage it every day, give it the pampered life of a king right up until you kill it. That's Kobe. And it's so expensive there seem to be only a handful of restaurants that offer Kobe steaks. (Some restaurants sell raw, paper thin slices, by the ounce, for a Kobe tartare.)

But none of this is has anything to do with the original point about Costco selling "Prime" beef. They do. My local Costco has it in the counter all the time. Most grocery stores do not.

Not confusion from me. and Agree to the point.

Not exactly accurate statement. Let me help fix your confusion. a) They don't feed them beer (they do get massages). b) Kobe beef, just like Champagne, could only come from Kobe region, It doesn't matter so much as to what they do to they Waygu cows is that must come from very specific lineage (DNA) and region. Just like real Champagne could only come from a specific region, it's also more expensive than other Waygu beef. To that point asking crazy expensive amounts of money (like $1000/lbs) for real deal Kobe Waygu beef "seems reasonable".

But none of this is has anything to do with the original point about Costco selling "Prime" beef. They do. My local Costco has it in the counter all the time. Most grocery stores do not.
Bear with me for a second here. I didn't said anything about prime beef. I go to my local costco often and they have some excellent beef selection.

My whole point is addressed at this statement of your:
herbu said:
In addition to regular availability of Prime, they occasionally have Wagyu. You can almost always order it at Costco online. http://www.costco.com/CatalogSearch?keyword=wagyu&pageSize=96
My issue is costco is being a bit misleading with a couple of their waygu listings, specifically this one
http://www.costco.com/Authentic-Japanese-Wagyu-New-York-Strip-Loin-Roast,-A-5-Grade-13lbs.product.100311362.html
$100/lb (or $77/lbs on "sale") is imo crazy money for is not real Kobe beef, but it's cousin.

But I don't think Costco ever represents their Waygu as Kobe, so I'm still not clear on the "misleading" part.

As for the beer, I believe it is true that Kobe cows are fed beer, but not specifically for the reasons in the legend. This is what I found from several sources:

Is it true that Kobe Beef in Japan are fed on beer and massaged to make them tender?
Well, both things take place, but not for the reasons we've been led to believe. Beer is fed to the cattle during summer months when the interaction of fat cover, temperature and humidity depresses feed intake. Beer seems to stimulate their appetite. It's merely part of the overall management program designed to keep the cattle on feed in the heat of the summer.

Here are a couple of the sources:
http://www.foodreference.com/html/artkobebeef.html

http://www.blackmorewagyu.com/beer-and-massage-for-japanese-beef/

There doesn't seem to be any proof that the beer actually affects the taste of the beef. However, since the goal is to keep these cows fat and happy, I can tell you it works for me. :)

And I maintain that the guy who was defamed for saying that Costco carried Prime beef was wrongly libeled.

Herbu, please pay attention. I never said they are lying. I just said that it could be misleading to less educated customer. If they called it Kobe - it would not be misleading, it would be lying. Calling it Authentic Waygu A5 and putting extremely high price tag could easily confuse less beef educated consumer to believe that he or she is buying the "holy grail" of beef - Aka Kobe Waygu.

Thanks guys for the education on Wagyu/Kobe beef! I've only had it twice....the cost to appreciation ratio just doesn't work for me. The last two Costcos I've lived near didn't carry the Wagyu stuff in any case; even Prime is limited. I have been to Costco near my brother's place that had more beef selection but that was a pricier neighborhood so like many grocery chains they probably skew the selection to the neighborhood.

Already played w/ the basic settings and see some improvement. Several settings were a bit off. Still want to go thru the advanced stuff. I hope that's the stuff I see in my TV settings that I don't have a clue what they mean.

Thanks to everybody here who recommended this over the years.

I don't know how much that knife is worth but do know if it's true Damascene style folded steel and not etched pattern steel, it's more than I could ever afford!

Very nice looking tool!

That's a spiffy case! I like how the connections are still available, and there is room for the heat sinks! A lot of the cheaper cases, I have to trim out for the heat sinks.

But, if I need a new case in the future, I'm just gonna 3D print it!

RPi is a heck of a toy / tool for the hobbyist! Enjoy!
