It's the receiver I own. It's weakness is the fact that it doesn't have Audyssey MultEQ XT or XT32, just the most basic version. It's strength is the NAD specific features, upgrade options and relative power. Very conservative rating on that. I prefer it's sound quality over my Denon, but that is highly subjective and the source of endless debate.

Yes, while my wife supports my passion for audio as well as music, to upgrade, I would have to call in the National Guard to pull that off, if you know what I mean.
That depends on how attached you are to towers! If you are willing to put the time in to properly integrate the subs (and I suspect you already have with your towers), and if you can get a decent price on your towers, a pair of SVS Ultra Bookshelf speakers would be an easily audible upgrade. They retail the same price as the Prime towers. I also think SVS offers a discount for previous customers, but maybe that is Emotiva?
FYI, The Ultra bookshelf rolls off at 45Hz While the Prime tower goes to 30Hz.

Hey Ken you're a trouble maker, that's really really nice, I could get 2 Prime Towers or the NAD but not both without the wife going into defcon 5 mode

That was my next question or shall I say inquiry as to comparisons however you answered that, sounds like it comes down one's preference,
I started reading the fine print, but here sure is a lot of it. what praytell, is this device?

*edit: a receiver. duh. I should probably not post when I'm having drinks. lol

You're find, I'm glad you're relaxing at home with your drink because that's exactly what I'm doing and not going anywhere, my daughter called to use my car, hers is in the shop for routine check, sure as long as you're not drinking while driving, I told her that the car knows it's way home but will you if you're driving while drinking, she's responsible but driving & drinking isn't negotiable...Cheers

oh yes. even my patient wife has her limits. I started upgrading and... well, you know...

I gotta cool my heels for a little bit before I drop a grand on a pair of speakers. wait for a little overtime and a bonus check. the holidays are upon us and it's my busy time of the year. I manage a meat department for a big chain grocer.
Let there be piece in the valley, I'll wait and hope for a major distraction to take place but I hope that distraction isn't going to be a subtraction from my pocket, I'm hoping Black Friday doesn't become Red Friday...lol

I would love a pair of those ultras. the towers are out of my budget though. I do have the svs ultra bookshelf speakers on my wish list though. I think my subs will make up for most of the extension lost in speaker size. I will own a pair... eventually.

I welcome that suggestion, I've heard the Ultra bookshelfs and love the sound, those will be on point with the Prime Towers I have already, was so focus on the towers I never gave the Ultra's thought, as far as the sub read my 1st post

Quadraphonic (or Quadrophonic and sometimes Quadrasonic) sound – similar to what is now called 4.0 surround sound – uses four channels in which speakers are positioned at the four corners of the listening space, reproducing signals that are (wholly or in part) independent of one another. Quadraphonic audio was the earliest consumer product in surround sound and thousands of quadraphonic recordings were made during the 1970s.

It was a commercial failure due to many technical problems and format incompatibilities. Quadraphonic audio formats were more expensive to produce than standard two-channel stereo. Playback required additional speakers and specially designed decoders and amplifiers.

Seriously, I have no life.
You could set the AVR to Streo and connect one pair to Speakers A, one pair to Speakers B.

was curious about weather or not is there a avr that has a setup for stereo to play 4 speakers
Diesel,
I think you need to take a breath and slow down. It sounds like you believe you can convince the boss to spend some money, and you're in some kind of euphoric whirlwind trying to figure out how to spend it.

Surround speakers are a good thing, but don't believe they will reveal some kind of divine revelation. In TV/movies, they play stuff that happens off the screen. Think about that for a minute. TV/movies are a visual medium. You see what is happening. There is little that happens off screen because it's pretty useless to the medium.

For music, "4-channel stereo" will indeed fill up the room. It's useful when you have a room full of people because the volume is not too loud at one end of the room, and too soft at the other end. But think about sitting by yourself and listening to music.

With 2-channel, you can picture a stage in front of you and think, "The singer is on the right, or the guitar player is on the right, or the violins are on the left, etc". With 4-channel, the guitar is in front of you on the right and behind you on the right. "Filling up the room" means you can't localize specific sounds... just somewhere on the left or somewhere on the right.

Filling up the room can be kind of cool once in a while just playing around. But I suppose it's the rare duck that actually prefers it in the long run. But now you've blown your financial wad on great speakers that really, really make that creaking door sound good.

If you have the money, great surrounds can be had. Some people here use very expensive surrounds. I'm sort of half way in that group. I have 4x towers at $1k each for side and rear surrounds. Do they sound great? You bet!!! Do I use them for music? Very, very rarely. If I was starting from scratch today, would I buy them again? Nope.

if you got an itch that needs scratched and can talk your wife into it... think I'd just upgrade. if you bought your towers direct from svs I think they'll let you upgrade if you want to return those primes and get the ultras. i know they do that with their subwoofers. it would be about the same money-wise as getting 2 more prime towers, but a substantial upgrade.

and I totally agree with herbu. I have smaller, cheaper (still decent) surrounds in my house and they more than do the job. i almost never use them for music. you don't need to break the bank on surrounds, imo.

*edit: I'm on their site right now drooling over the ultra bookshelf speakers. I will get a set of those.

Now I understand & realize the impact and effects of having to much time on one's hands...LOL...Herbu, couldn't agree more, I took the deep breath, slowed down and came to a complete stop, and euphoric whirlwind is a very good description of where I was...LOL the information you shared with me reinforced what I enjoy most, music in a 2.1 setup, thanks for turning the lights back on:rolleyes:, I thought back when I had the 5.1 setup for music and the dream cast and p1 & p2, for the games it was really good, for music, no. Going to finally pull the trigger on the sub, SVS SB 2000 and relax;)

You can always upgrade to bookshelves or monitors , the Outa sight out of mind upgrade. My wife never questions my purchases, just how they look.

Thanks Pogre, you & herbu got my attention, when you stated that you rarely listen to music in the surround setting and with me it's 99.9% music, Monday I'll pull the trigger on the SVS SB 2000 and relax...

After shipping, the VTF3 will be about $200 more. But it is an incredibly powerful sub for the money. You might also consider the Hsu ULS-15 mk2.
