Onkyo brought Pioneer

Was unaware that Onkyo brought Pioneer until today, was it a merger or are they going to operate independently? Is there information on the specifics of this venture? I've owned both and my experience with Onkyo led to a divorce because of the issues they presented, still married to Pioneer...

They are now integrating their receivers. Common (hidden from the public) components will be shared (like power supplies, tuner sections, amplifier sections, etc.) in an effort to reduce costs and maximise profit. So far I hear mostly Onkyo parts are being used which sounds like the death of "Pioneer" products. If so Pioneer will become a re-badged Onkyo. Sad. :(

Hey lovinthehd,:) I deserve that response and I'm still laughing because if the response was any different, it would've been a disappointment, thanks;), has this transaction affected Pioneer's client base or profits in anyway?

Thanks Jim, I can remove the questions & thoughts I was pondering on, :(...I believe it's going to be a slow death for a Pioneer:(...

I've never been a real fan of Onkyo and avoided them like the plague after their recent HDMI failures. It's probably prudent to stick with Denon (I have 2), Sony (I have 1), Marantz (rebadged Denons mostly), etc.

2 years is a while :) but I haven't been keeping track. I believe the a/v industry is not rolling in dough on the other hand and believe Gibson, largest stakeholder in Onkyo, has not been doing well...

I read some of the info in the links you provided and a friend of mind said the same thing about Gibson

I can't remember what 5.1 Onkyo avr I had and don't care due to the issues I encountered with it several years ago and after that experience I never gave any attention at all to any product that Onkyo made or was affiliated with and I agree that Pioneer is going to be a casualty due to Onkyo...

I think Pioneer retains their car stereo portion, they only sold the home a/v business. My local mega-mall was experimenting with different types of retailers and had a Pioneer Store, a Sony Store, now both are gone.
