Hello,

I've been trying to create a new thread with a list of equipment (including mfg part numbers) that I'm close to pulling the trigger on as my first nice A/V system, and the forum will not allow the post to be created due to it being detected as spam. Any suggestions on how to post such information or what triggers the site to ID a post as spam?

Thanks.

These are typed out brands/models or just links?

I tried typed out brands/models and typed brand with links.

Don't believe you're eligible to post links as yet. Need 15 posts IIRC but I may be thinking of another forum, but likely at 1 post that's the issue.

Re: list above...

Hello The area of my home this system will be installed is a 30' x 30' living room/kitchen combo with 8' ceilings. Our current entertainment mix is approximately 60% music, 20% movies and 20% TV (mostly sports). The music we most enjoy is rock (classic, hard, alternative, metal). We currently have a plain old LCD TV and an all-in-one table top system we use for music.

To say I'm an A/V beginner would not be fair to beginners. After years of considering an investment in a nice A/V system, the time has finally come. I'm looking for feedback on any glaring gotchas on my shopping list (mismatched equipment, equipment mismatch for the size of the space, known issues with equipment chosen, etc.).

I do plan to a local shop help me with the installation and setup. Any and all advice/comments/feedback welcome. Thanks in advance!

I'd listen to as many main speakers as you can. The MA are good speakers. The 2 sunfire subs will never pressurize your room, I'd look at ID companies for the subs; HSU, Seaton, Rythmik, SVS, etc.

What pops out first is the small subs for your very large space. Can you accommodate bigger subs?

Why power conditioners?

Yes, I can accommodate bigger subs - any suggestion on size/output of subs would be better suited for the area?

Power conditioners to help against poor power in my area - it fluctuates consistently.

I would be able to accommodate a sub cabinet up to ~ 20" wide.

Define poor power. What do you think the conditioners will do for your system? Never found a use for such, more curious why you think you need them. Can buy a lot of gear for the price of that stuff.

I'd just build the subs, but that's me. If buying only as was mentioned, look at Hsu, Power Sound Audio, SVS, Rythmik, Seaton, JTR. The Seaton F2 is 20" wide :). However, please note that sub location is very hard to pre-determine for best performance.

Thanks for the recommendations, guys... F2's, huh? Nice! Unfortunately, price is a factor. How do you suggest I try to properly size the subs? Let's say I want to stay under $1,500 for the pair... would moving up to the Sunfire SDS-12 be enough of an upgrade? From a spec/performance perspective, would a pair of these subs be sufficient? I understand you guys like the other brands, I'm only trying to get a sense of scale (e.g. the SDS-10 v SDS-12 in my space).

As for the power... I wish I could be more specific in defining poor power beyond inconsistent power (spikes and brown-outs). My reasons for this equipment was to protect equipment and improve sound. Perhaps I'm making a something out of nothing. I appreciate the questions, I will spend time looking at these line items closer.

everettT, to clarify: Sunfire SDS-12 or HSU VTF-3 MK5 HP is the minimum you would consider?

Gotcha... again, just looking for clarification: does the SDS-12 meet the mini requirements you would consider for this space, or would a pair these be inadequate in your opinion? Thanks for your assistance and patience.
