Surge protector for Onkyo receiver

I've been told that my svs subwoofer and emotiva amplifier should be directly plugged into the wall and not into a surge protector.

What about my Onkyo TX-NR709 receiver? Can I plug it into a surge protector?

The reason I want to is I hate having to plug and unplug it from the wall. I have the hdmi thru/pass setting on and the receiver gets very warm on standby mode. So with a surge protector I can leave it plugged in but turn the surge protector on and off with a push of a button.

I would plug everything into the wall without a point of use surge protector. But I would install a whole home surge protector at/near the main breaker panel.

Well...if you really want that higher level of standby then why would you turn it off at the surge protector? I have a similar Onkyo avr to the 709 and I disable the hdmi and network standby modes to save power. I have all my amps/subs connected thru surge protectors, it's power conditioners I'd avoid.

The only reason I have hdmi standby on is for the wife. In order for her to get audio we have to keep the receiver plugged in. I don't like how the receiver gets hot on standby mode so I unplug after each use.

Where it's positioned makes it a pain in the arse to constantly unplug so if I can just push a button to turn it off that would be ideal.

So would a surge protector be ok? I'd only do this assuming there is no power loss.

Surge protectors are limited in nature. I use a smart strip style so that when my avr is turned on it fires up my amps (2 pro amps and a plate amp) for my subs/tactile transducer. The wife likes tv speakers? Maybe you could more easily use a smart surge protector so when the tv turns on it turns everything else on....or use a universal remote control with a an appropriate macro employed. If you have serious surge issues a whole home surge protector is the way to go.

Everything I own is hooked up to a surge protector or power strip. I never have any issues.
