a prayer to all of those who have lost, on both sides

A divided nation cannot stand.
Citizens are not the enemy.
We are all humans first.
Don’t give into the hate, yet don't deny the truth.
To my brothers with badges and my brothers with dark skin. There are no sides here.
Unity please.
Don’t let the wicked sway our hearts and minds. Don’t let them divide our nation, or all is lost.
Prayers for all who were lost.
Prayers for what may come.
The good can win.
We can.

I hope so. The contagion of madness and hate seems to be spreading at an alarming rate this year … all over the world.

Peace

These last few months have been a roller coaster ride of emotion. It's prompted me to reflect on past events all the way back to 2001. We need to come together as a nation of great people. We are flawed sure, but even with all our flaws we are stronger united than torn apart.

It's a small number of people making a lot of noise. They're given credence where there is none and that is giving them power they shouldn't have. It's sad when such a small percentage of people can divide us so easily. Americans are being manipulated and no one with the power to stop it is doing anything about it.

That is a wonderful sentiment and certainly one most of us can agree with.
However, as human beings there is a percentage of us that have other priorities.
I can think of a couple of "reasons" (obviously not great ones) someone might do this:
1) For the infamy of it - they will definitely get their name and picture plastered on TV screens and newspapers!
2) Power - I knew a guy in HS who was a black belt in Karate. He was a great guy, but every time he drank, he would want to fight someone because he knew he was good at it. I could see someone who has prepared for the government coming to grab his weapons being frustrated that he has not had the opportunity to implement his capabilities and ends up looking for the slightest excuse to "engage"! If you prepare for something, you tend to want to use that knowledge/gear/etc.

These are not normal people, but if they are 0.001% of the population, there are a hell of a lot of them out there.

This is personal for me as my GF is going to be in riot gear and on call for the BLM (Black lives matter) protest in Marietta.

The police have abused their power in some instances. Being an officer has always drawn some of the people who are essentially into being in control over others and they probably are opportunistic when they have someone who is likely not "well connected".

However, I really want the police to be able to respond to crimes without first having to make sure the area is clear of threats.

The government really has two functions as I see it - to provide security and stability. If we lose this, it will cost big time...I am talking economic costs. Just look at third world countries where you cannot not order something nice and expect it to ever make it to your door as a simple example.

If you mean the BLM movement, it doesn't appear to be small. It's got wide support at the legislative level, music industry, colleges.

Sadly, this country is more divided now than I ever have seen it in my very soon to be 49-years on this Earth. It seems everything is about race and being "politically correct" at all costs. Not sure how it is going to get better. Whatever way we can reunite we need to be doing that rather quickly before it is too late. Heartfelt condolences to the Officers lost and their families. :(:(:(:(

It's a good thing we have Foxnews on hand ready to trumpet every reprehensible thing a black person does and call them BLM in order to stir up white resentment from witless rubes. That sort of coverage is only newsworthy to racists.

The caption at the top appears to have been added not by FoxNews but dailymail.uk as the stills do not have the caption. As Fox and others news outlets noted, the demonstration was largely if not overwhelmingly peaceful. The news is the news, ShadyJ and selective or edited or omitted reporting of events doesn't strike me as particularly transparent. Hands up, don't shoot? Pigs in a blanket, fry 'em like bacon? Deplorable behavior is simply that.

Better not to cover them?

I am constantly amazed how some people will bend any event to foster their political agenda. Shady, did you hear what the shooter said before he was killed?

The direction of this thread is sadly predictable, and non-productive. Y'all have fun.

If public airings of deplorable views and vile remarks were newsworthy, than the Foxnews comments section would be the top story every single day.

Showing a handful of black guys saying nasty things on camera serves only one agenda.

Makes you wonder what the apologists and witless rubes blamed before Fox news.

I find this article to be quite illuminating on the subject of police shootings of black people. Essentially, such incidents are proportional with shootings of white people when the numbers of interactions with police is considered. Doesn't mean that there is no racial aspect to the shootings, as the question of why there are 3 times as many interactions between police and black people than with white people has to be considered. http://mobile.nytimes.com/2015/10/18/upshot/police-killings-of-blacks-what-the-data-says.html?rref=collection/sectioncollection/upshot&action=click&contentCollection=upshot&region=rank&module=package&version=highlights&contentPlacement=2&pgtype=sectionfront&smid=tw-upshotnyt&smtyp=cur&referer=http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2016/07/end-needless-interaction-with-cops-during-traffic-stops/490412/

As for the shooting of those Dallas police officers, it's a sad thing to see. Sympathy to their families.

I'd seen this some time ago but had forgotten where it was, so thanks for bringing it up. When it comes to data crunching, economists tend to bring a unique perspective and one that eschews simplistic correlations leading to unwarranted claims.

I'll probably write to him in the hopes he may be able to come up with some papers that have been published. I think it was in the first Freakonomics book they had a chapter which was titled something like Why Do Drug Dealers Still Live At Home? Basically, they found that the drug business is very much ripen like McDonalds and the people at the bottom didn't make all that much. It's only when you get to the top where money is made but the turnover rate is pretty high.

Comments such as he made aren't going to sit well with the BLM crowd nor with politicians who relish carving up America into its many slices and then looking to manage those slices. I remember back in third grade my teacher, Mrs. Somma, a domineering bitch of a lady if ever there was one, asked me what nationality I was. American I replied. Then she said what I mean is where were your parents born? Here in the US. Ok, what about your grandparents. She had me on that one and then pronounced that I wasn't really an American. This perplexed me as I'm sure not everyone in France or Germany could trace their lineage to their respective countries but according to her they weren't hyphenated.
