Nearly flawless set of measurements. That carbon fiber cone looks sexy as hell too. If you ask me, Funk is at the top of the high-end of hi-fi subs. I doubt any of the high-end subs from the super-expensive companies like Wilson, Magico, etc, YG, etc, can compare, not only in performance but also aesthetics.

Likely planning on getting me a FA just not the 21".... Simply too large even with a beautifully finished veneer it would be a difficult sales job on my missus. I've being looking at some of the subs on Instagram.... Amazing craftsmanship.

Just Purchased the 21.0 a little while back. Should be completed soon. :) This is the sealed sub you point to when people say sealed don't have as much output. The reality is....they are absolutely the best of all worlds if you can afford to buy a sub that puts all of the right pieces together in a way that allows for staggering performance. In a sealed design that will always cost more. Yet still a damn fine value - a bargain in its strata with Easy sub 10hz extension is always nice :) Nathan is a bit of a genius...or mad scientist...hehehe

The 21.0 is also a bargain compared to my Velodyne DD18 Plus. Velodyne is currently asking only $100 less than the 21.0's asking price, and while some user interface features are more sophisticated in the DD18 Plus, if I were choosing today I'd pick the 21.0 without hesitating. Those measurements are impressive. In fairness, when I bought the DD18 Plus in 2011 I paid ~$4100 (in a state with no sales tax) with the dealer discount, which would now equate to ~$4900, but I'd still choose the 21.0. For one thing, it weighs over 30lbs less than the big Velodyne, mainly because FA splurged for neodymium magnets and isn't using MDF, which would make it a lot easier to move around to place just right.

Amazing how the subwoofer world has evolved in five years.

Of course, this is all moot. While I'm tempted to move the DD18+ to the HT room, I don't really need it in there, and the damned thing still rocks my new listening room, especially with the mains running full range. I need a 21.0 like I need a new dress. Sometimes I wish I wasn't so practical.

The DD18 is a very fine specimen - and I agree, the 21 is new...how could you know :) Nathan mentioned on AVS I believe that with the strength of the TSAD21-V2, to use a ferroceramic magnet (or whatever the correct term is) would add 120lbs to the motor structure. That's no joke. It's the strongest home theatre sub driver anywhere at 365lbs of force placed on the cone at full tilt...yet is a lightweight. I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir, so this is more for other people finding this info for the first time.

I would be extremely happy with your sub, it's a great performer, and at that price a nice bargain...but subwoofers have never been about "need"....I'm not sure practicality should be apart of the equation ;) Hahahah

Size wise, the 21.0 is 1/2" to 1" bigger in all dimensions vs the 18.0...that's it. That 21.0 is disturbingly compact. Of course the TSAD21-V2 motor is what get's it done in that small enclosure. Point of fact, it needs that smal, enclosure to perform. 3.5cuft internal volume. Just insane.

I see one big problem with that sub, price! :D
I bet Nathan can get you a passive version (externally powered) to use with your own amp. That would save a lot of money.

That's one reason I love externally powered subs (Funk, RBH, Linwitz, etc.); you don't have to spend $2-3K on the internal amps if you don't want to.

I know his drivers are near impossible to mechanically destruct. They are non interference in essence so bottoming them out sounds difficult. Beautiful design so they seem ideally suited to alternative amps...That said, using his amps and DSP settings doesn't hurt, it's well protected and the mini dsp is relatively nice to work with. Really, sky is the limit, I know he can talk anyone through setting up one of his passive setups.

You guys see his announcement for the DIY drivers? Includes a 21 and 18 option, both tested on Data-bass.com very impressive - Soon to follow are TSADXX-V1 variants. Pretty damn impressive designs. Honestly, it's remarkable what he has managed to achieve in his designs.

Had to fire off a couple photos of a gorgeous sub in progress :) Funk Audio 21.0 pre assembly. Top shot and a side/back shot showing where the amp and controller module is mounted. Veneer is Bog Sequoia Burl with Sanstos Rosewood corner inlays done in Nathan's famous deep gloss finish. The Burl is rare and crispy and frankly Brutal to work with I hear...so worth it :) Nathan is an artist. Last photo is under subdued indoor lighting where more of its character is revealed with the woods variety of shading. It fades middle front light to dark. It's a gorgeous effect in its own right. This is the colouring not affected by lighting.

Simply stunning...Santos Rosewood inlays...very nice...after some deliberation and discussing things with Nathan...I opted for the Santos as well....deciding on which veneer is likely the toughest decision....:D

The Santos rosewood would have been my next choice. Absolutely am a sucker for rosewood. :) the Bog Sequoia Burl was a unique and rare option I had to jump on. But I would be happy with any number of his options. He literally doesn't make a bad one. Simply gorgeous.

You will love your sub. It's eye opening for most people to experience one of his subs. The reality is, besides the people on the board, 99% of people have no flipping clue how good bass can be. Funk does it right and its jaw dropping at times, downright scary at others :)

I've always felt that products that are this well made and handmade are a privileged to own. Funk largely defines that notion for me, much like a custom knife maker.

Nathan was testing My sub today. Finished photos to come tomorrow it sounds like and a Monday ship date. I live fairly close'ish to him, so shouldn't take long to receive.

He let me known day that he now includes magnetic inserts into all of his subs as standard, so a magnetic speaker grill can be added anytime. I'm think that's a great move on his part. A pleasant surprise. Have no intention of covering up that beautiful driver though :)

I have not heard back from him since I placed my order...mind you, I'm not concerned and like you I would not want to conceal that beautiful driver but certainly good news for all.

Hey Tim, I would take you up on the offer, but I am way down here in Western Kentucky. Billy P has been telling me a bit about his Funk plans here and there. By looking at your pics I can certainly see why. Plan to do a bit more reading up on Funk in general. Congrats on your purchase! Yes, I envy you.....LOL!!! :p:p:p:p

Cheers,

Phil
