So I have had this problem for a while and i'm NOT going to buy another AV receiver but when I turn on my Yamaha it makes some of my speakers just do not work until I turn the power up to a extent and it's not a cold solder joint because I have done a repair on this AV Yamaha receiver from a cap exploding but I still have my power issue before and even after of any repairs i've looked at every solder joint that there is and so i've found no broken or lose of any kind solder joints and so now the problem has just been continuing to happen and i'm not going to take it to someone else to go fix cost WAY to much $$$ is it a cap or something else I also have tons of other yamaha's as well have the same issue I just can't find the problem anywhere so be found WTF is this issue. If you know tell me what area it would be around and what to fix that issue with? Yamaha rx V995

I have a BOTL Yamaha AVR that is a few years old. When I first got it, I thought it was broken because I turned it up a little and got no sound. Eventually I just kept turning it up and finally heard sound. It started at -80, and I had to turn it up to around -50 before I heard anything. We typically use it at -10 to -35. Peace and goodwill.

What speakers you have? This might just be that your speakers arent sensitive and they need certain power to play. You have nothing to worry if you can reach your desired listening level without maxing the volume in receiver.

You say "some" speakers. To what speakers are you referring?

It's the receiver because IV hooked up other speakers to the receiver and my speakers are Cerwin Vega xls 6.

I feel your pain. I've had Pioneer, Onkyo, Panasonic, JVC, Marantz, Yamaha and Denon receivers. They ALL have this problem. Please let us know what you discover.

When I ask about "some", I mean are the fronts, center, side surrounds, or surrounds rears.

Yes, it does make a difference.

It is the anti turn on/off thump circuit.

A lot of amps and or power supplies let a speaker damaging thump through on turn on and or turn off.

There are a lot of ways of skinning this cat. A lot of circuits rely on waiting for signal draw or output from the power amp before speaker connection is allowed. This can involve relays or MOSFET switching.

Sensitivity of these circuits vary, and so you may have to turn up the volume a little before the speakers will be connected.

This seems like an awful fuss over a minor problem.

If you don't kike it the solution is more expensive refined equipment.

This is not a fault, but just a protection circuit doing its job.

It's the main on the receiver but I think all the channels will do it to some what of a extent.
