Hey bassballer, and welcome! You're doing it right. It's much better to ask for advice than for validation. :) Do you have a budget in mind for your home setup? Has anything caught your eye thusfar? Are you in Portland? Is this you?

thanks. and I live in salem but work in portland. I see things like that on a daily bases lol.

well I'm mostly into music and not much of a home theater guy and I don't want to much equipment in my living room taking up space. I'm thinking a 2 ch setup with a sub as far as equipment I still dkn much and will do plenty of research before listing anything. budget I haven't setup one yet but I have been in audio long enough to know good sound isn't cheap.

if anyone is curious my car audio setup consist of the following 2-way active setup
Eclipse cd7200mkii
Morel mdt-29
exodus Anarchy 6.5
custom tc sounds 5400 15"
Arc audio 4200se
Digital designs m3b

In general, you're right. You usually get what you pay for. But there are bargains to be found. For example, Dennis Murphy, a well-known crossover god, mods a pair of Dayton kit bookshelf speakers and sells them as the Affordable Accuracy monitors just for the sake of spreading good cheer as far as I can tell. I haven't had the pleasure of hearing them, but I get the impression they're so revealing you'll want to smack your mama. All his other offerings are generally considered exceptional values as compared to similarly performing speakers as well. If you're comfortable with a saw and a router, you might consider a DIY project (or two) to save some money. And sometimes we come across good sales... from time to time.

I'm thinking of getting a new car. Haven't decided how much to spend. What do you suggest?
Be nice, herbu. He hasn't actually asked for any advice yet. He's just introducing himself.

One thing should be said right away - while your car audio experience could be helpful, home audio is quite different.
This forum is very light to near non-existing car audio enthusiasts, but few of your car components do sound familiar to me:
Morel - they are really solid Israeli audio speaker manufacturer - truly one of top dogs quality wise.
as TC Ultra LMS 5400 18" - around here - this beast is legendary - as it be easily adopted to run as Home Sub.

Rojo's advice is solid - these DIY projects provide HUGE bang for your buck.

Well, of course, the Lexus LX 570, Range Rover, or Mercedes G. Duh! :)

I've never had any interest in car audio (not in the Mark Levinson systems in my previous Lexus LS sedan nor my current Lexus LX SUV), but I've always loved home audio.

...I don't want to much equipment in my living room...
Get one AVR (like a Denon X4000 series on sale for $650). No need for external amps.

Then get a pair of towers with built-in subs (RBH SV-6500, NHT Classic Four, DefTech, GoldenEar). They may not produce bass like a big subwoofer, but you may not want bass like a big subwoofer anyway.
