Thanks Seth.
It sounds to like OP don't need a receiver at all.
I agree with you, but he first said:

Here's my dilema i want to buy a new flagship receiver and need to know what model is the best, brand is irrelevant.
then he said:

I know it might sound strange but my only requirements is it must be a flagship model
So he knows it might sound strange and that he probably does not really need one, but sounds like he wants one regardless.

I do apologize. BS reading comprehension has never been my strong suit, but if OP's pockets are burning he could get Marantz AV8802A with optional Audyssey Pro (I heard Gene is looking to offload his)

The problem is that we don't understand what you want. The only thing I can figure is that you want a new flagship receiver to see if it sounds any different than your old flagship receiver.

How can we answer that? We can talk about features, but nobody can know how you will interpret what sounds different or better.

You showed us 8 pictures of the same speaker. OK, I get it. You like those speakers. Do you want suggestions about the best mainstream AVR? Look at the most expensive Yamaha or Denon. Do you want suggestions about the most expensive equipment that comes complete w/ exclusive bragging rights and would be quite impressive in pictures? We can give you some brands for that, too.

But simply asking for a flagship recommendation to see if you can hear the difference is not really something we can answer. Sorry.

I think people are not bashing or trashing as such, rather, just wondering why you must have a flag ship model if you don't even have a need for HDMI yet and your Elite AVR is in good shape. You did say you wanted to compare the quality of a new flagship AVR to a 14 years old one, but is that the only reason?

Lots of people believe that in pure direct mode, it should be very difficult to hear sound quality difference between a Pioneer Elite flag ship and any other flagship AVR mentioned. The street price of a top model from D&M, Yamaha, Integra, Onkyo, Sony will be in the $2,500 to $3,500 range. Expect to pay much more for NAD and Arcam. There are also Anthem and Cambridge Audio that can be had for less, may be in the $1,700 to $2,500 range. That's only because they don't offer the latest features and have less channels.

So if you are only interested in finding out about sound quality difference between a 14 years newer flagship, you may want to look into the Anthem MRX-710 for under $2,000. You will still get HDMI, USB, and Room EQ capability etc whether you need them or not, but at least you won't paying for a lot of the latest gadgets that you have no need for. Also, as mentioned before, you can check out the Emotiva prepro as an alternative to AVR since you will be comparing the preamp section only right?

I think we may be reading too much into it. He just wants the highest end flagship receiver.

If a receiver it must be, then the Denon AVR-X7200WA is what you want.

The 49 has a custom 1 and custom 2 manual set up i am assuming the new models have this option as well. 99% of the time i listen to music so i have custom 1 set with a little on the trebly side and custom 2 set a little on the bassy side as some songs need some treble and some songs bass so i just switch to whatever i need.If i remember correctly the 49 was the first receiver to offer automatic room correction so i would suspect they have improved upon that somewhat.
I have 2 comments about the above.

1) For the OP, there is a possibility that you will like new room EQ variants. Especially, if you are now integrating subwoofers into your system, you may consider Audyssey XT 32 with L & R Bypass. That will give your speaker a non EQ'ed signal, but allow

Sorry in mountains and local server and forum not happy.
1)...sub management and ROOMED which is arguably the most beneficial application for roomEQ.

2) For AH respondents. Do any of the current flag hips allow manually setting up a custom EQ and quickly changing to/between them? That sounds like it is important to the OP.

First i want to so thanks gentlemen for the feedback.I have had a change of mind on a flagship receiver i decided i am going to go ahead and purchase a flagship pre/pro and kew hit the nail on the head with my next question that is; will any of them allow a person to set the eq manually and have more than one setting? The two i am deciding between is the Yammie and Denon and to answer your question PENG why i want the best is two-fold one is that it should last a long time or until i'm dead cuz i ain't no spring chicken anymore at 55 yrs young the other is it should sound better than the cheaper line unless i've been deceived and i know sound is relative to the listener or hearer. And as far as bragging rights herbu that's laughable as absolutely nobody in my circle of family and friends knows anything about audio they think a good sound system is their factory car radio only my sister and my youngest son have been in my listening room besides my wife and daughter of coarse. Concerning my question i have searched and cannot find a definitive answer i'm confident someone on here has the answer.AS far as the pics i sent i accidently sent two of the same thing should have put my glasses on.The reason i changed my mind on another receiver is i have a buddy who has a game room behind his house and if i want music while playing pool or something i have to bring it so the 49 is easy two of my smaller speakers some cables and a transport so i thought if i get a pre/pro i still have the 49 if i need it DUH.

It makes more sense if you have the amps already. The Yamaha, Denon, Marantz prepros all allow manual EQ but as soon as you engage manual EQ the automatic one will be disabled, obviously. I am not sure about the Emotiva and Anthem ones, my guess is that they will have manual EQ feature as well. By the way 55 young is definitely spring chicken, just look at the age of the presidential candidates.:D

Quite right. Sorry, but no "old guy" bragging rights yet for you, hk7300.
I've got you by 7 years, and my shooting/fishing buddies quickly remind me I'm still a young whippersnapper... especially when I complain about some pain.
So with any luck, this will not be your last system. :)

Do they allow you to save 2 manual setting to switch between?

I have been playing with the MCACC Pro on my new Pioneer.
It has 6 memories built in.
You can copy the room corrected version that by default is Memory 1.
Then you can change channel levels, individual speaker EQ' ect and you don't loose all the phase/standing wave/delay settings of memory one.
I presently have 5 of the memory positions set up for different scenarios. One for watching broadcast TV. One for multi channel SACD. One for regular CD. One for Blu Ray media. And the unedited version, for comparison purposes, and critical listening.

I am not sure as I never use such feature. I do know for sure the settings are "per input" so even if the answer to your question is negative, you can still cheat and switch easily.
