Hello. Im looking for bluray player recommendations. There are so many brands and model numbers.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

Give an idea of your budget.
Personally, I am happy with my Sony old BDP-S590.
The things that make it good for me:
1) Plays SACD's (doesn't matter unless you already have SACD's, it is a mostly dead format).
2) It is quiet (I briefly owned a Samsung unit that was great in many ways - very fast processing - but you could hear it running anytime the music got soft:mad:).
3) Bonus - it streams Hulu, Netflix, YouTube, etc. essentially replacing the functions of a Roku or Amazon Fire stick!

My point is you don't have to go exotic audiophile to get solid performance. The whole point of the digital disc formats is to avoid the kind of problems that require an expensive player.

On the other hand, if you have the money, there are some beautiful players out there. My Sony is boring to ugly as far as making any visual statements goes.

Hey Kew. I would consider spending as much as $300 on a player. I have an original PS3 and keep wondering if I'm missing anything by not having a newer dedicated bluray player.

I've never used the PS3 so can't help on that count. Are you hoping for better function or better sound?
Maybe someone who uses the PS3 will come along and comment.

I have heard that PS3 can get loud in some situations, so I would look for silent player.

I've got a few Sony's and a Panasonic players, all Wi-fi capable, quick, and have a great picture and none cost $300.

I'd recommend an inexpensive Sony unless you have some requirements you haven't stated hat that preclude them.

I'm looking at the BDPS6500 over the 5500 due to the dual processor. According to reviews the dual processor helps when using apps like netflix, etc....which I plan to do with it.

Don't think you can go wrong with the Oppo bdp-103 either for 500 bucks, great machine.

Yea, the PS3 and Xbox 360 were both loud. I know the 360 can't play blu-rays. The new generation are super quiet, you don't even know they're on, but if you're not gaming, then just save the money and get a regular Blu-ray player.

I had Samsung BD-F7500 and it was way too loud for me.. With some discs it almost sounded like it would fly away.. With my current player I can't hear it when playing.

Lol! I haven't experienced that with this player yet, but i know what your talking about. I had a Sony that would get off balance and it literally started moving across the glass shelving.

The Samsung is the quickest player I've yet to own.

I ended up purchasing a Sony BDP-S7200 for a forum member. I'm looking forward to it arriving in a couple of days. Thanks for all the suggestions.

The Samsung I had (I think 6500) was also very quick, but you could easily hear it anytime the audio got quiet.

Sony players have, in my experience, always been quiet. Obviously, if a unit is defective, all bets are off!

Owing to the fact that I own a fair amount of sacd's, dvda discs, ( could say I'm stuck in yesteryear ) I love the sound quality of them. Hence the purchase of the oppo bdp 103, it plays these formats. Maybe it might seem a little pricey, but for me it is well worth it, also super quiet.

Whg, I read a very favourable
report on the
Samsung bd-j7500, seems like you scored it for a good price.

Nice!!!
Give us an update after you get it set up!
I was reading about it and the 7200 sounds like an exceptional model!

It worked great. I used it last night after moving around some equipment. Now if I could only figure out how to pass through the audio so my Yamaha could do the decoding.

How do you guys have your bluray setup?

I have HDMI cable running from BDP to AVR.
"Pass through" is the default as long as you are using a digital cable between your BDP and AVR, the Sony DAC will not be used (no reason to convert to analog, only to convert back to digital for output). The video signal will stay digital all of the way to the TV. The audio signal will stay digital while any room correction and cossovers and other processing are performed. For audio, the digital to audio conversion happens just before the signal is sent to the amplifier.

So really, all you have to do is not use analog outputs from the BDP!

My next BluRay player will be another Sony. You pay little for them, they look and sound great, and last 3 -5 years.
