Where to send my vintage receiver for cleaning/repair

Hello all,

I just signed up and need some advice. Back in the 70s before I was born, my dad sunk his money into things like his JVC VR-5660. It was top of the line back then as well as the JVC speakers he bought ($800 a piece). Growing up, we used this receiver and speakers on a regular basis (and turn table as well). Now that I've grown up and now have my own family, it was passed down to me and I use it on a daily basis. I even use his KOSS Pro/4AAA headphones that KOSS repaired themselves for $9 haha!

My question to all of you is: given how much this receiver means to no only myself, but my family as well, where would you send it to be cleaned/repaired? The chronotuner digital numbers are very dim and don't read anything other than "1000". The headphone port has a static sound coming over it that's annoying when using any headphones.

I know it'll end up costing me, but if it's restored to like new condition, it's worth it to me. Thanks for any imput!

FYI- Koss has gone to a "No questions asked" lifetime warranty, so if they break, send them in.

Where are you located? Regional service centers are around the country, for major brands.

Really? That's awesome, seeing how not many companies do that any longer. Yup, my KOSS are in like new condition now. I'm in Indiana, PA and don't know of any repair places that can do the chronotuner digital part of it. I want to make sure it's done right the first time.

You could clean the controls and switches yourself (Caig DeOxit, available from Parts Express, among others), get rid of the dust, wipe it down and try it. If the tuner isn't off, leave it alone- there's no point in digging into something almost nobody is equipped to do anymore. Not that there are no shops that do this, but they're very rare. The dim light problem could be caused by a bad regulator.

Hmmm, ok. Do you know of anyone who does work on them?

I had a few places I use here in NJ that I'd recommend, until I saw how far west you were.
You might want to try someplace that you can carry in and meet the guys doing the repair.
