> Most people are not audiophiles. For them, Music & HT are an accessory or an appliance, not a serious focus.
> People are familiar with the Bose name from their youth and car stereos.
> Many/most of the really good audio equipment is harder to find and audition than Bose.
> Most people are ignorant in the meaning of audio measurements, thus unable to understand technical measurements and evaluations.
> Most people have never heard a really good audio system for comparison.
> Most people are not willing to commit the effort it takes to learn about audio.

Pro People, it is clear you reside in the neighborhood of "Most People", and enjoy only a pseudo and casual relationship with an understanding of audio. That's not a bad thing and you have the majority of people with you. Enjoy your Bose system(s) for many years!!!

From audiophiles purists, they found Bose gave low results in terms of reference measurements for numerous standard parameters. But equally they're astound and could not understand why the bose speakers sound so very pleasing to the ears. Yes, you can have a very high end setup using other quality brands, you can hear an excellent highs, mids and lows, but the problem is you cannot listen music for an extended number of hours as you will experience hearing fatigue. It is because you heard too much highs, mids and lows or say over compensated frequencies.

Now but for bose you can listen to music over extended period of time without experiencing hearing fatigue because the frequencies arrives to your ear are just enough. That's why most of the reputable jazz bars and restaurant, nightclubs churches mosques and 5stars above hotels have put up bose speakers for background music in their establishments.

So which of the 2 speakers should the audiophile purist should choose? Obviously Bose is the choice, because we want to hear music most of the time without developing hearing problems.

Most people nowadays already learned my friend, they've learned a lot about audio. Nothing beats the acoustimass 10 series V for the same size and price.

They said, you can make better out of your 1000usd by buying other brands. Truth - a lot of tiny speakers have imitated the bose but not anyone of them can beat the bose. Using other high brands of near same size speakers when you turn up the volume, there you feel the speaker is not capable and a lot of distortion or cracked voice. For bose it is virtually distortion free no matter how much volume you set in. This is an engineering feat from Bose.

Knowing all these, I can conclude that the ultimate test of the speaker performance is always how you perceive the speaker produces the sound. This is DIY style, not by audio measurements value but by hearing.

Pro Purple, please stop trying to sell the Bose. Either buy them or don't buy them. Whatever.

If you're a Bose shill, which is seeming more and more likely, stop flooding our forum with your atrocious grammar and resurrecting all these Bose threads that were better left for dead. You're not going to convince any of use who have heard and appreciate quality gear, who have also heard Bose systems with their nebulous dipolar imaging and sad substitution of a bass module for an actual subwoofer, that Bose is a good value. It just isn't.

If your mileage varies, fine. Vote with your wallet. We'll vote with ours.

I mean, seriously, what is your goal? Do you want us to talk you out of buying a Bose Acoustimass system? We really don't care what you buy. We don't have to listen to it. You've gotten the advice you came for, and apparently you disagree. That's fine. However, if your goal is to convert at least one Internet stranger into another Bose fanboy, if that is what you need to validate and enjoy your purchase, your only result will be frustration. You will not succeed here.

Just go and enjoy your Bose system. The sooner, the better. Go, immediately.

Pro People - you are ABSOLUTELY CORRECT to trust your ears when deciding what to buy. No one else wears your ears or has your brain so you have to buy what sounds best to you. To thine own self be true, no? As for Bose, a lot of people criticize them and downright spew venom at them but there must be some reason why they are still an extremely popular brand and, if you poll the people on the street, the vast majority will tell say "Bose is the best."

I've been a huge fan of Bose ever since I walked into a Sharper Image store and could not believe the superb sound I was hearing was coming from two tiny cubes on a slim metal stand. Of course that was sort of misleading since there was also a subwoofer in operation but after that I was sold on Bose and have purchased nothing else since that time.

Don't let the audio snobs in this forum dissuade you from following your ears, heart and mind. Do what you know in your own heart is best for you. Your reward will be a rewarding ride on the road to happiness with no end.

Advising one to 'choose for yourself', but 'follow the herd because those numbers can't all be wrong', seems contradictory.

If the OP actually does listen to a number of different speakers other than Bose, he will readily understand why they are considered such a poor value.

I based only on my hearing when i went to my uncle's houe, the clubs some of my friends and the most is the bose demo studio and I found the sound is quite pleasing to me..That's why i'm gathering more information and I want you to give me a very convincing reason why I don't need to buy Bose, but certainly you cannot. That's means i think you hate Bose but I don't know the reason why.

I just want to find the good reason why bose is not good. Kudos to you munkoboy!

I mentioned two reasons -- the nebulous imaging and the lamentable bass module. They simply don't sound as good as other speakers that can be found for much less money. There's also the proprietary connections, the irritating sales tactics, and the exorbitant price tag.

I don't hate Bose in general. I wouldn't mind replacing my bedside clock radio with a Bose Wave Radio, and their headphones have well-reputed noise cancellation. Some of their stuff is pretty good. The Acoustimass is not among that stuff, though.

And it's not only the Acoustimass system I dislike. I happen to hold a similar aversion to most HTIB packages regardless of brand. It's just that the Acoustimass is among the most expensive with among the least plausible sound reproduction.

Now do you know why I dislike the Acoustimass?

Wow you really are a troll. People have been giving you reasons throughout the entire thread as to why Bose is so disliked. For some reason you can't seem to understand the information given to you. Yet you seem to ignore it and keep asking for reasons as to why Bose is bad. So I call BS on you and your questions. You know exactly what you are doing.

Ask yourself who else has speaker ads on TV aside from the occasional HK/JBL ad. NO ONE. It's not rocket science to figure out why so many people think Bose is best. 90% of people have no interest in good audio so they buy what is mass marketed to them. Who do you think pays for the advertising ? YOU DO with high prices. Period. Bose markets more than anyone else so people think its the best. They prey on the general laziness and stupidity of the public and the fact that many have no real reference to what good accurate sound is. So it's easy to dupe someone with a nice package and a designer look. People are so gullible it's scary. Just look at Beat's headphones.

Other than the Shaper Image store Bose demo, did you try anything else? Best Buy, Magnolia, a friend's stereo system of equal cost, not Bose?

Put your ego side. Yes, your uncle, et al got suckered into buying from the Bose marketing hype machine. Open your mind to education or join them. If you've never heard a properly set up home stereo, do yourself a favor and try one before committing to buy. Where are you located? Maybe I can try to point you to a store or person demoing their setup.

Bose Pro and Consumer products have little to nothing in common. Comparing them is foolhardy.

Now I know. "Nebulous imaging & lamentable bass module" - the imaging of acoustimass is quite excellent for me and the bass module give a very low frequencies too. I admit this is very subjective. But now, can you name me a brand and model you are referring to other speakers that sound better than Acoustimass 10 Series V, so we can compare it constructively. You need to specify a particular speaker brand and model so we can compare.

I can't understand because most of the reasons are very shallow and not objective. I know exactly what i'm doing, are you?

Oh "90% of people have no interest in good audio so they buy what is mass marketed to them" if it is then this 90% people should buy those unknown or cheap brand speakers they can easily see along the street market, anyway they have no interest in good audio, and they can save money, is it? I don't think so.

In my opinion, I think the price of Bose is just reasonable, or can you name me another speaker brand model so we can compare it against each other. But you have to remember that comparison should not only to sound but of course the size also, otherwise comparison is not objective, I mean apple to apple.

Now you blamed the public for laziness and stupidity in choosing good audio. Are you sure?

How about a pair of Hsu Research bookshelfs + a Hsu VTF2 sub? How about three WaveCrest Audio HVL-1 + a Rythmik LV12R? Add a pair of Fluance AVBP2 for surrounds if you must have 5.1. How about a simple pair of JBL Studio 530 and an NXG NX-BAS-500? Since the only requirement is to piece together a system that outperforms the Acoustimass, this is too easy. Every combo that happens to pop into my head ticks that check box. How about a pair of Infinity Kappa towers and no sub at all? If building a system out of satellites is your goal, I'm sure I can still find something from A4L and add a diminutive Outlaw Audio sub.

Absolutely. Look at what kind of audio equipment is in most homes. It's cheap HTIB's and blue tooth speakers.

I listed 5 companies with similar products yet you don't want to research this and look into these companies and the products they sell. I

I'm done. Go troll somewhere else.

Seriously? He gave you five options for comparison in the post you quoted.

the imaging of acoustimass is quite excellent for me and the bass module give a very low frequencies too.
If you think that Acoustimass bass module generates low frequencies, then you obviously do not know what true, excellent low frequency extension sounds and feels like.

I just want to find the good reason why bose is not good.
If you weren’t convinced by the link provided in the second post, then I’m sure nothing can dissuade you. Below is a synopsis of the “good reasons” we’ve given you on this thread.

Our main “beef” with Bose is that it is drastically overpriced for what you get, in both sound and build quality (as the link will show).
The Acoustimass is not a subwoofer, and never will be. It can't reach those [low] frequencies, period.
The reason these are few, not because Bose is great, but since they never allow to compare their system side by side or be measured by 3rd party.

I mentioned two reasons -- the nebulous imaging and the lamentable bass module. They simply don't sound as good as other speakers that can be found for much less money. There's also the proprietary connections, the irritating sales tactics, and the exorbitant price tag.

===================================

Oh ok, we just compare the orb & gallo which is the closest to acoustimass; o

The price - all the 3 have same price 999

Form Factor - Bose rectangular, Orb Gallo - spherical; orb & gallo are basically new designs for small speakers, spheres may find difficulty in placement or blending with others such as flat screen TV, the components rack, and sofas...need to find new rounded designs furnitures, rack, maybe curve TV sala set too in order to blend with the spherical speakers. Bose cubes series 2 seem natural form that can easily blend to existing flat TVs, racks, decors, frames, sala sets.. Note that it was actually bose who started to conceptualize a virtually invisible speakers which turnout to be the tiny cubes since late 90s. Cambridge works follows and so on to other brands.

Soundstage - Bose acoustimass was ever known for a theather-like or concert hall like soundstage even without tweaking your equalizers or DSPs presets in receivers because the tiny cubes uses your room walls to project a direct sound causing it to reflect or bounce here and there. To some extent, the principles will look like the sound image or focus is lost. But in actual you will think that stereo sound is virtually everywhere, to some they says its muddy, while others say its not, its even pleasing and comfortable to hear. this subjective. Gallo & Orb are projecting true to life straight stereo or surround sound path and sound image are well focus, but only in limited sweet spot preferably at the center, when you go beyond I loses while bose seem surrounded you of stereo sound virtually everywhere.

Low & High Volume - Orb at low and high volume is very good, but at low volume the base is not quite kicking. Gallo at low volume good and have kicking base but at high volume there distortion comeout, seem gallo at high volume is anemic. Bose, very low volume still clear and base is really kicking, at high volume oh bose doesn't have distortion, I think there is control inside the circuit to keep it distortion free.
