I think it was lsiberian and his wife who went out to visit Mark a couple summers ago and said he was a most gracious host and that his homebuilt/designed system was absolutely amazing. Both of which, I have no doubt. He really does know his stuff when it comes to building and designing a system.
Having experienced cold white northerners and New York and Jersey 'tude, I appreciate TLS' direct approach. I think he is also far more sarcastic than can be detected on an anonymous forum. But to each his own, I find great humor in his posts.

Fuzz I agree, TLS is not the last word 'round these parts. But including him, the information base on this forum is astounding. As my tastes have now far outgrown any amount I could sanely spend, I look forward to tapping this forum for a Beryllium design I am scheming....

Women's World Cup starts today, and by starts I mean US plays their first game. US vs the Aussie's at 7:30, dunno what time zone that is. Did not realize they were playing in Canada, otherwise I would have tried to get tickets to a game. Oh well.

Aren't you still too busy herding cats?

It would be cool to go see a game. Well, as long as no one is playing one of those loud horns from the World Cup in Africa that one year. :D Holy ish. I couldn't watch any part of that tournament because of that noise. Well, that...and I'm not a soccer fan. :D Oh, sorry. Fute-bahl.

FIFA is basically the worst thing to happen to the game.......ever. They are one of the most corrupt corporations in the world, including governments.

That being said, I'd love to see a US game, male or female. However, I would cringe and hate myself for a few months afterwards for giving money to FIFA.

I'd much rather go back to an English Premier League, league match. Now those are absolutely amazing. IMO, US sports teams and the environment in US stadiums doesn't have anything on soccer matches in England (probably elsewhere, but I've only ever been to an English match).

Fun fact: most people don't realize that Soccer was/is a name the English created for the game. Not the US.

As to the cats, I've got a couple sick days :p

I would like to see a Rush concert, and an F1 race in Brazil. I'll have to wear ear protection the entire time, but I refuse to believe there is a more energetic audience on the planet!

You can refuse all you want, but until you are at an EPL or La Liga match, you haven't seen passionate fans ;)

Well lets do a fun audio test and get the Rush Live in Rio disc and see how high we need to turn it up to get 'reference' level....

If it's mastered correctly reference level is always 0. Soooo, that's how high you need to turn it up. :p

Basically it's just a scale problem. If you properly scale a soccer stadium's noise to account for the larger audience at the Rush concert it would, at minimum in my estimation, be competitive.

Besides, we're talking about two different things. If we're talking about pure noise, then yea the Rush concert wins, but then again the whole point is to make noise, isn't it? Music, singing, cheering, pretty much sums up the event. In a sporting event, noise is a by product of watching the game. Plus there's the scale issue mentioned above. A Stadium only has so many seats, concerts, especially large one's are usually standing room only, which allows for a much larger audience. So from a pure noise perspective the concert might have it, but arguably at best.

Now you mentioned energetic fans and then how loud they are. I mentioned passionate fans. Again, we're talking about two different things. If you dig deeper into it, passion then subdivides itself between the two events. A concert is more or less a one off event, a great atmosphere for that single point in time with a bunch of people you more or less don't know singing along to songs and cheering. Passionate fans no doubt, but for a much shorter period of time. I doubt the fans are living and dying by every concert Rush puts on and following them in person or on TV as they tour (or at least a very small percentage of fans). With the EPL, La Liga, etc you're getting fervent and fiercely loyal fans, pulling from a relatively small area that gather 19+ times a year for their entire lives, while passing along that passion through generations, while also singing and cheering, living and dying by every missed pass, goal and close call. For the concert you have a high level of passion that also fades quickly after it's over. With the sports teams, that passion is sustained year round, year after year. So from my perspective it's two different conversations depending on which way you mean passionate.

Concerts are fun and I've been to some reasonably large one's, but they just don't do it for me like those soccer matches. Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but I find the viewing too passive and most "artists" except for "real" bands (like Rush) and some solo acts they sound like crap live anyways. Too much hopping around and explosions. I like the smaller, more intimate locations instead of the mega tours for the most part.

Can anyone tell I'm bored at work?:cool:

Lol yeah I agree with you completely, I was just tying it all back in to home theater. And having seen Rush twice, granted I'm not old enough to have seen them in their prime, but I greatly prefer watching them with quality sound reproduction at home!

Speaking of which, I've recently been enjoying a pair of Focal Solo6 Be's. Never heard a speaker that can so accurately put 3 instruments, that are basically soloing the whole time, on such an equal and expansive sound stage. And they are near field monitors playing outside their means, my room isn't huge, but the seating distance is about 11'. I now very much have a taste for beryllium.

And yes I have a healthy kidney I can spare!
