WHAT THE FUDGE!!! This thread hasn't been posted in since wednesday at 6pm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Others saw the thread going under and just kept walking. You, sir, bravely dove in to save it.

And that, my friend, is what makes you a hero.

So far so good with the Marantz. I do love that porthole look.
I think it's pronounced, glory hole.

I wonder if Onkyo is making the HDMI boards for Denon now. Seems to be a lot board failures for all manufacturers.

Domino's just ordered. I was going to go to the store, but laziness and beer won me over. I'd be okay with what's here, but I've got nothing really good for Niki...so pizza with ham and beef it is. :)

Ham and beef? No cheese?

I had cheese mushrooms, onions, and red pepper flakes...

Yep, no cheese - but I also had mushrooms. It's almost like we were separated at birth.
separated like surgically, that would make sense because I have this weird unexplained scar on my left hip? :(

I have been in a mushroom mood, the other night we went out to eat early dinner and I had a portobello burger with goat cheese, then mushroom rissotto the next day, then mushroom pizza, now today I am going to have prime rib special at local pub, which is 18oz rib covered in mushrooms and swiss cheese...

So I'm thinking of taking on a little project on that might kill a few birds with one stone. I want to take my laptop off of full time duty. I worry about constantly plugging 6 different connections in and out and the wear and tear that will take on them. Plus it's a huge pain to do so every day, sometimes multiple times a day, so I wanted to replace it with a desktop. However, a mac desktop that will do what I want it to is more expensive than the laptop was. Plus I'd like to have an HTPC with all my movies ready to go in the office/HT room with the ability to use my main display as an output. Finally, even with moving things off of my laptop to external hard drives I'm still filling up the internal drive of the laptop faster than I'd like. This also makes having everything available to me all the time impossible, which drives me crazy. Sometimes I'll remove some stuff from my laptop drive only to need it while I'm at school. Hopefully this would help solve that as well.

So bottom line is I'm going to try and build a hackintosh. Should be fun, probably frustrating, and definitely interesting :D

Fuzz, have you considered a Thunderbolt dock?
Yup, I've looked into them. The main thing that would worry me is that I already have one USB 3.0 hub filled, along with two of the 3 USB 2.0 slots on the mac display, so I didn't know if that would be overtaxing a thunderbolt hub.

Plus, I just need something to do outside of school work. My other two main hobbies have been put on hold, and I'm too fidgety to sit down and read a book so I thought a computer build might be fun and informational.

I like your idea fuzz. Building hackintosh is very challenging, but a rewarding exercise. Make sure to do your homework before ordering parts, as i heard compatibility is not that great. Gotta get the right stuff from the ground

I went to lifehacker which led me to tonymacx86.com, which is supposed to be a great site (from what I've read) for helping people build a hackintosh. I used his parts lists and have a bunch of stuff in carts. This is what I've got so far:

intel core i5-4690k
coolermaster nepton 240m liquid cooler
gigabyte GA-z97x-UD7 TH
Crucial ballistix tac 8GB
Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD
EVGA GeForce GTX760 2GB
Corsair 500R
Corsair RM 750
LG WH16NS40 BD/DVD/CD

Thoughts? The only thing I wasn't sure about was if I actually needed the video card or if the onboard graphics would work. I asked on the tonymacx forum but haven't gotten a reply yet.

List looks good. I assume you intend to overcloak the crap out of it :)
As for gpu:
I'm not sure. From one side : if you don't need games and stuff intel HD video should be fine, but then again there might be some issues with drivers for HD video and hacked osx. I can't help ya. Sorry.

Hm, I don't know if I care for the killing of two birds.
This sounds like an interesting build. I know people that have done the opposite and added a Windows OS to a Mac machine with bootcamp though. Good luck man.
