Receiver volume when source signal is low

So I'm listening to a CD on my new home theater system at a reasonable volume of 30%. I go to watch some youtube videos and notice the volume is quite a bit lower. Do I run the risk of the the amplifier clipping if I turn the volume up (say, 80% of maximum)? I'm just wondering when the source signal is lower, is it okay to turn up the amp even if it means I'm nearing the max?

You'll be fine. The amp can only produce it's rated output if the source signal puts out a signal of a certain strength. If the source signal is low, then you'll have to turn the volume control up to achieve the sane relative volume as if the source signal was higher.

Just be careful to turn the volume back down BEFORE swapping back to the louder source, or you will scare yourself good and then risk damage.

And, just the obvious question, do you have the volume slider turned all the way up on your computer?
