Hello I'm trying to design a somewhat killer bedroom sound system for my little brother per his request. I'm kind of experienced in car audio as I've put together a couple of systems so I know what ohms are and tuning frequency is etc.

Budget is around $500 for the left and right towers, the sub(s), the enclosure materials, and the power. This is NOT AT ALL going to be an SQ setup, it's just so he can bump some music. And him and I are going to be building the boxes ourselves (fun little project).

This is gonna be for his roughly 3500 cubic foot bedroom, just to play music on. He wants bass that will shake the house... and that's pretty much it lol. He wants lows too like down to 25hz I guess.

I'm confused which route I should go to do bass in a room since it's bigger than a car. Are car audio subs different than home audio subs? Can I just get a 15 inch JL Audio car sub, put it in a box tuned to 31hz, and it'll be good (loud)?

So yeah thanks for the help in advance... This is not meant to be a great system by any means, just something he's able to crank up and be able to hit the low lows on slowed down music (Decaf).

For the towers get these Pioneer SP-FS52s, at $260 list per pr. Get the Bic F12 sub to pair for $180 list. Power it with either the Yamaha RX-V377BL or Pioneer VSX-524 for $250 each.

This will go over your stated budget but will be solid. You can get deals on them frequently, and of course buying used might just come in at your budget.

yeah I've been on there for about three days straight lol. I'm just wondering if there is a difference between speakers marked as car audio and speakers marked as HT (Home theater).

Not much of the budget for entire 3.1 even for DIY and huge issue is needed loud volume AND very large room.
I would look at these for Left & Right:

It would use same drivers but I imagine some minor differences in crossover

For sub: I don't have linky now: but search this forum for Jinjuku's Infinity sub.
Also 4 cu sealed with SI sub will do very nicely http://stereointegrity.com/product/ht18-18-subwoofer/ (get dual 2ohm)

To power LCR - get a used AVR and you could power sub with Pro amp.

I believe you can use car speakers, but you may end up paying more for appropriate amps. Not sure how it happened, but impedences are different. I would assume it has to do with 12V DC vs 120VAC.

Alright thanks guys for the help/links etc. My little brother actually found a pair of Marantz HLM 308's yesterday on the side of the road... One tower has a blown tweeter but that's it lol. The midranges sound way harsh on rock/metal music so I think we are going to change both the tweeters and midranges with just w/e we can find and put the old kicker 12 I have in a box on a Behringer amp and run all of it on this old Technics SU-Z760 Receiver my dad has given my brother... Lots of free old stuff .

The DIY section will be hearing from me in the coming weeks lol.
