adtg- no such thing as last system you will ever buy. Doing so is going against human nature.
You could be satisfied with your system for years to come, but we all know that itch comes back sooner than later.

That's why I got it out of my "system" and bought Revel Salon2, B&W 802D2, KEF Reference 201/2, Linkwitz Orion, Phil3, Funk 18.0, etc. I know I'm not missing anything. That itch has been scratched to the point of bleeding. :D

I think the salient point is to audition all the top speakers out there. Then you know what to compare.

Then ask yourself if you want additional subwoofers or don't want any additional subwoofers.

Of course, room size, furniture, and WAF are factored in.

Yep. I have spent so much money I could have paid my car off by now. I have ended up with two music only systems. Not one but two.. And none of the equipment was cheap. I just bought new Ascend Acoustic RAAL Towers this month... And I already have fantastic RBH SX-6300/R towers... Ugh, I know my wife hates it.
Hi ematthews - Just curious, what is the sound of the RBH towers compared the to Ascends?

Something is not right here. I owned them speakers and they sounded great. I would have to put them in the best 10 speakers I've ever owned. I would say it's your room. When I sold mine to a friend we hooked them up in his place and his and my jaw just dropped. Identical electronics we had at that time. I had mine spiked in my place so I figured has to be the spikes. We put the spikes on and it did sound better, but not even near as good as they sounded in my place. I was surprised that he didn't ask for his money back because they really did sound like crap and they still do. Take one system from one room to another and you will hear the difference.

In my experience, most good speakers will sound good "right out of the box", meaning they sound good in most rooms even before calibration. Now, they will sound even better after you place them properly and "dial them in". But they tend to sound pretty good out of the gate.

The other wildcard is personal preference. That's why we all own different speakers. :)

dont get me wrong Walter, they do sound good... its about a
so much more then their soind though. They are giant complicated speakers. I really don't have the space for them (one of the big reasons for this post, on impulse i bought speakers that are just too big.) The adcom amp that I got is definitely better then the receiver, but these are still lacking in the bottom end and I know they will do more, so if i keep I will end up spending more on an amp later... then I will need some sort of stereo pre amp because they will be set up in stereo system as they dont work in the living room. There isn't room at my house though so it will likely have yo be set up at my inlaws house... buy they will never use it. So now I'm investing a lot of money into a system that is not going to get that much use.... it goes on and on. I wont sell them foe less then i bought them for so i still may end up doing something like that if i cant find a buyer, but... well you get my picture.

I realize this all to well. I don't identify myself as an audiophile. If I had to put a label on myself it would be audio bargain addict (aka audioholic). I should attend AA meetings.

NAA, I haven't.
It stands for Young Asian Alex. I bought a center channel from him and like to complain about being over charged. Hence the comment. He also goes by Fuzz but how the hell are you going to call a dude that?

Wow I just read my last post... I had trouble reading it, and I'm the one who posted. No more long posts on the phone.
Anyway yeah I really do have trouble staying away from deals on the used market. I would definitely consider myself a "audio bargain addict" I almost bid on a five channel amp today that I don't even have the right source for right now...
ughhh.

Well I just got the adcom serviced... plugged it back in a little while ago, and yep, its going to be really hard to let these go.
They disappear into the sound like no other speaker I've ever heard. I don't need a sub for them as they are plenty powerful on their own. They dont attack you with sound. They are just so laid back that when you listen you just want to relax and close your eyes... They really would be the ideal two channel listening system if I had the space. A nice mid-fi turntable, sadly it looks like I have a very interested buyer as well, and at about $200 more then what I paid for them. We will see if this sale pans out... If not my in-laws may just get set up with an awesome 2 channel listening system.

I'm pretty happy with my current setups. I only have 3 or so :)

I think I'm sold on a Parasound ZCD, I'm just waiting for one to come along at a good price.

... and they sold, get picked up on Saturday. After paypal fees I made 175 dollars over what I paid for them. I guess I did ok.

Would have impulse bought an Advom GFA-555 yesterday if the price had been right. It was marked at $399.95. I lack the need for such a powerful amp and would prefer its successor if I had the need (GFA-555 has no relays, I hate that about it). That said I it where $300 I would have said "nice price, don't need it, at 250 I'd think hard about and most likely succumb to weakness, and at $200 or less I'd forever regret not buying for those prices and I'd feel like I was obligated to buy it. That ladies and gents, is addiction.

What worries me about that unit is all the features it has packed into that tiny enclosure. Something is probably lacking. The Zpre and Zamp are stunningly simple, but the zcd seems like a bad idea in its execution.

They should make a ZBt (Z Bluetooth).

Then you've never met YAA. :D
Don't hate just because I'm thrifty and happen to lack any and all self control.

Well, all the reviews have been great, and a few AH members have it and have recommended it. I should have bought a demo when AA had them a while back. But, now I see the silver model, and I prefer that one. But, when the price is right, I will almost certainly grab either a silver or black.

A great SMALL CD player, that's what I need. Anybody have another recommendation for that?

See, I build a lot of electronics, so it's nice to have a small good CD player that is easy to move around as needed to different setups and for temporary / testing setups. I don't really have that now.

Perhaps we need to simplify the setup, now?
