Greetings fellow Audioholics. I am on a quest for a new CD player having owned an ULTECH UCD-100 and a BIRDLAND AUDIO ODEON-LITE DAC for fifteen years. I also own an OPPO BDP-103 which I have only lately begun to use to play CD's and I prefer to the ULTECH / BIRDLAND arrangement. I did not in the past use the OPPO as a CD player as I did not realize that it would offer, in my opinion, better performance than the CD / DAC combo. I realize that the OPPO players are highly regarded but I am considering a REGA APPOLO R or a MARANTZ CD6005. Although these units have quite a spread in price they seem to be very highly regarded and I do not know which would offer the best performance for my audio system. I run a NAD C375BEE and TOTEM MODEL ONE SIGNATURE speakers. I also own an ANTHEM INTEGRATED 2 which I may have recapped and cleaned / checked. Any knowledgeable opinions and advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, any opinions on simply moving up the OPPO line to the 105. Thank you very much.

Thank you, Nestor. I appreciate your response and the fact that the OPPO is a fine enough player that I need not have to purchase a new unit. I do know that the DAC used in most players today is far superior to those of the past. I bought my OPPO as a Blu Ray player and although I realized that it was capable of playing other formats I did not realize what a fine job it did with CD playback until trying it recently. Please take care.....Joseph

I myself use Marantz UD5007 blu-ray player as CD player as well and it does the job really well. I see no point to buy separate CD player if you already have quality blu-ray player that can do the job. Oppo 103 should do good job for you, I think it is pretty similar to Marantz UD5007. Of course there is people who will disagree, after all its your money and you can do what ever you want with it.

Thank you, tyhjaarpa. the OPPO does sound very good playing CD's. now I wish that I had simply purchased up the OPPO line when buying it. At the time i simply purchased it for DVD playback but it is on the same rack as my audio gear so it has always been connected to my stereo amp. Take care, Joseph.

Greetings Nestor. I posted a response to your advice but posted it in the wrong manner. I appreciate your advice, the OPPO does sound great and I will continue using it for my CD playback. Had I realized this at the time I would have purchased an OPPO a bit further up the product line. Be well always, Joseph
