Can't get my sub to work with my receiver

New to the game and can't figure this out. I have a Sony STR-DH550 receiver paired with a Polk PSW10 and can't get the sub to work properly. I know it's working because when I disconnect the RCA's I get deep feedback. What I guess I'm confused about are the connections. I have 2 sub outs on the receiver and only a L and R rca connections on the sub itself. Speaker connections on the sub also. No LFE on the sub. How do I hook this up so it works?! Haha. Like I said I'm somewhat blind when it comes to audio stuff. I'm running a 5.1 system. I made sure I'm not on the 2 channel setting either.

Thanks!

You should be able to feed either sub output into either the left or right input on the sub.

The hum is encouraging but, just to be sure, plug a CD player, or anything into the sub's inputs and see if it plays anything. It won't sound like much, just some low frequency noise, but that'll assure the sub is doing it's job.

Finally, if those work, I'd say the problem lies with the receiver. If it's new, I'd say recheck the manual, particularly the speaker and subwoofer setup section, to make sure you crossed all the "t's" and dotted the "i's" that's required to set up a modern receiver. These aren't plug and play like the old stereo units were.

I plugged my sub into the computer and it was thumping! I guess my problem is lying either with the receiver itself or the hook up. Hmmmm

Read your receivers manual carefully. Or else, it could be defective.

If you can't get the answer from the manual, call the manufacturer.

You need to set all of the speakers to "small" to enable bass management so that low frequencies get redirected to the sub. See page 110 of the 750/550's Help Guide.

Seriously, I have no life.

I doubt it is your hookup. You stated hookup is correct. My money is on incorrect speaker set up in the receiver speaker set up menu. My bet is that you do not even have the sub assigned.

Figured it out. I had a brain far when setting up the speakers. I had the sub activated but had 2 things wring. I had the speakers set as "large" and I had both sub outs on the receiver occupied with my only sub. It's a 5.2 but I'm only running 1 sub.

Thanks for the input guys!
