And some people, audition speakers for a few months and make a decision what sounds best for them. I have to say sometimes I get a little frustrated reading people's comments on a particular speaker, but I respect the fact that everyone is entitled to their opinion.
This post is a prime example of what I am talking about. People will give positive or negative feedback on a particular brand, but provide little substance as to why they like/dislike the brand.
"Would not be on my list"
"Golden Ear, worse than Definite Tech"
"Try XYZ Brand (online or retail) instead)"
Everyone has their opinion, and sound to a certain degree is subjective, but as of late replies like this is why I have spent more time going over to AVSForum to review the individual speaker manufacturer's fourms to get the feedback of people who own the speakers, because I tend to get a little more information as to why they like/dislike a particular brand"
When I made the decision to go with GoldenEar, it was as I gradually was transitioning from another brand. I spent numerous hours listing to different speakers at multiple locations. I for one, don't buy speakers from online vendors, because I want to know what I am buying, before I buy. Just like if I am buying a car, I am not going to buy it from an online vendor, no matter what claim they make. It's a pain in the ass to have to go through a 30 day trial only to have to ship back something you don't like. I know, I had to pack up my Paradigm's and it wasn't fun. That's not to say online vendors don't sound better, worse or the same.
If all speakers sold at Home Audio Stores were crap, then maybe that would different. I did a lot of listening tests to come up with what sounded best for me. You can go to multiple review websites and find a lot of positive feedback on a particular brand and see measurements. I know that I am happy with my selection, not only because they were reviewed, measured, well, but they sound great in my house.
If you really don't like a speaker, why don't you express why you don't like it to a person who is asking questions about it. They may or may not end up being the same reasons as the person asking the question, but it would be a lot more helpful.
At least Walter expressed his dislike for the quality of the tops, looks. AcuDefTechGuy has pointed out he doesn't like built in subs. The rests of the posts really provided no relevant information as to why any of those are bad selections.
A am a relative noob compared to a lot of people on this forum and I look for people's opinions and have made changes based on feedback here.
"Off of Soap Box"
Short Version: You can feel free to bash any selection I or anyone else make on a particular brand, but there is little value from comments that provide little or no substance as to why XYZ Brand is Good or Bad.
I also apologize for this long post.
