7.1 Setup, looking for clarity, stellar sound stage.

Audiholics' Facebook page just posted the Emotiva ERT-8.3, and it caught my attention. The configuration with the tweeter on the inside and other woofers on the out ... I've never heard before. Every speaker setup I've had has had weak dialogue, and while the sound stage has been decent... for some films and music... I'm looking for something above and beyond what I've ever owned. These speakers I don't believe are produced anymore. I'm wondering what alternatives with their configuration the community might recommend? Music ranges through all genres, including Glitch. I'm thinking whichever next AVR I get, even if it may be a bust as I haven't heard one in person, would like it to be Atmos ready.

Ideal budget is under $6000, max 10K

I'm also looking to pair whichever speakers I get with an AVR that can match it for Crossover frequencies.

I do not have the wealth of knowledge that many members here have. All I know is that audio is like a drug, and I need to be immersed in it daily. I understand room dimensions are important, but imagine just about complete flexibility with average suburban home ceiling height. Will be buying a house this year, and a theater room will be part of the hunt, hence a decent budget worked into the loan for audio.

I appreciate any advice you guys might have to offer, and I'm totally humble and interested in learning better in the events of my having any misconceptions. Thank you again AH.

I'm surround by drugs 40 hrs a week for the past 18 years and I want nothing to do with it.

Tell us your room size. And this $6K budget is for speakers, subs, and AVR/amps?

ATMOS is just coming out on AVR. There are no contents on BD for ATMOS. In addition, DTS-UHD is not far behind. DTS-UHD may be on AVR in the Fall of 2015 or 2016. So unless you want to upgrade again in about 2 years, you might not want to rush.

Depending on your room size I would look into a nice strong bookshelf speaker, that has a strong matching center speaker... The wharfedale jades come to mind, their c2 center is very powerful and detailed...
WHARFEDALE JADE C2 CENTER CHANNEL SPEAKER (EA) at Music Direct
with a pair of jade 3's
WHARFEDALE JADE 3 BOOKSHELF SPEAKERS (PR) at Music Direct
and then for surrounds you can grab the matching surrounds WHARFEDALE JADE SR SURROUND SPEAKERS (PR) at Music Direct but I would use the fluance surrounds instead since you will never notice a difference except for the appearance...

You might want to read up a little on what ATMOS requires for useful playback. It's quite a commitment.

Since you are in Canada - find a PSB dealer and audition the PSB Imagine series (not the Imagine X) and see
how they sound to you. Along with Wharfedale - check into the Monitor Audio Silver series.

I figure $6K for speakers, $2K for AVR, ... and new 4K display... well I'm just going to keep crying myself to sleep till prices drop :(.

And after you take the plunge on the 4K display, will you cry when they come out with 8K display? :D

Here is my sentiment. You're not going to discern a significant improvement with your mortal eyes going from 1080P to 4K to 8K. And it's the same way with DTS-HD and TrueHD to DTS-UHD & ATMOS. :D

So just get a great affordable 1080P display. Get a Denon X4000 for $850-900 (call Electronics Expo on phone). Get 5 speakers and 2 subs. Be happy. :)

The ATMOS, I'm really not in a hurry on. It's just something I don't want to regret not being ready for. I really would like to stick with my next AVR for 6 years if possible :( ... hopeless right? On that note... cooling is really damn important to me, and service on an AVR. Fan grinding and such, and overheating... really not something I'm interested in dealing with on my next AVR, so I'd really like it to be able to handle more power than I regularly use. At least with my limited understanding of how these operate... I assume not driving a system to it's maxes that it's heat and fans will need to be worried about less.

Those Image T2 5-way towers, ... does anyone have an article on how frequency transitions in 3 and 5-ways like this, and what leads to or manages more precise and smoother transitions between the drivers? What roles do AVRs play in this from standard... to what more advanced AVR features have been seen with regard to it? Far as I can figure, my concerns are with frequency transitions, best speaker placement possible, and looking after reflection issues. I trust most other matters to these manufacturers for clarity and quality.

Between using towers for fronts, and bookshelf for surrounds if it's not too much to ask, are there any main caveats to proper configuration beyond placement? How unimportant is matching driver sizes with fronts to surrounds? Is the tweeter in the center what tends to me most critical for clear dialogue?

I hope these questions aren't too trying for you guys. I really hope with this thread to really stamp checks on any understandings I have and correct any misconceptions I may have before spending the money I technically don't have. If I'm jumping into debt, I want this baby to be perfect, and I hope to have it all configured minus the new AVR by May. Relocating to Western Canada, and it's important I start planning now in order to of course go house hunting and find place with an ideal room. Dream would be to setup the whole basement, and raise or remove walls if necessary.

The 4k jump - absolutely. The 8K... I can't imagine it. The DTS-UHD I can't be sure. What I do know is that sound stage and sources that put it to work are what really do it for me - which is where I have curiosity about Atmos and the new DTS. As it stands, I'm pretty happy with DTS-HD and find that 50% of the difference with my audio is happening at the source. I'm hoping that a quality speaker setup / upgrade will help Music and films that are not as well produced, still sound as well as I need them to.

With weak well placed speakers, you can still be surprised by some sources. I... want every sound out of the system to impress me. I want old Dolby 5.1 to catch me by surprise on it.
