Done some upgrading in my man cave awhile back and found a good deal on some huge XLS 215 Cerwin Vega speakers on craigslist so I thought I'd giv'em a try. They do rock loud but their sound is less than pleasing to my ears. They are in a huge room 48x54 pole building so accoustically its not the best but I cant change that so got to go with it. The 20 year old Technics that they replaced sounded better, so this got me thinking about trying another set of something else.

I have 2 pair of Polk LSI 9's in my back smaller rooms and they do great for their size. Seen they have good deals on Ebay for some Polk LSI 25's. I know many say the 15's are better but this is going in a huge room and being a pair of powered speakers I thought this might be able to kill 2 birds with, well...2 stones. I got to believe these are far more accurate than the Vegas and my Onkyo SR-805 should have enough umph to push'em ??? What do ya all think ?

They aren't powered, only the subs are which doesn't buy you much if you have a sub already. That's why most say the 15s are better IMO. Not to mention, those amps are fairly old at this point so I would be hesitant to pick up 25s for that reason alone. To be honest if you are looking for loud, room filling speakers, 4 Ohm nominal speakers with fragile tweeters are not a good choice. Perhaps state a budget and get some recommendations?

Yes, would like it loud... just not annoying LOUD, want accuracy. Polk speakers seem to do that pretty well. I already have a sub feeding the back game room so my output on reciever is taken. Figured that the 25's having a powered sub built in would fill the bill. I would be hoping to send the Vegas down the road for a few hundred, seem like a perfect fit for a frat house. Budget wise; I'm flexible... $1200-$1300 for the LSI's so I guess its safe to say I'd throw a grand at it, less would be cool but if it takes a couple hundred more I can swing that as well. I see a set of Polk A7's for $1100 and A9's for $1500.

Another sub wouldn't be out of the question but just not sure how I would control 2 different subs from one reciever output ?

You can always use a y splitter at the back of the AVR to add a second sub.

Not sure I would even say that LOL. LSiMs maybe? The best Polks I've heard are at least 25+ years old at this point, the SDAs.

For that game room - I would buy something like the JBL Studio 290 speakers, and call it a day
JBL Studio 290 3-Way Floorstanding Speaker - Each (Black) at World Wide Stereo

Also on Amazon
http://www.amazon.com/JBL-Studio-290-Floorstanding-Loudspeaker/dp/B00519EG0U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1407786906&sr=8-1&keywords=jbl+studio+290

And at JBL/Harman Audio

Then save for a second subwoofer

The LSi 25's on ebay for $1300 are factory refurbs with a warranty sold on Polk's ebay store so the amps are probably going to be O.K. for a while. They used to have the 15's for $849/pr which was a real nice deal.

I have a pair of well traveled 25's and the whole speaker, including the amps, are doing just fine. I don't crank mine up so I can't say how they would work for your application but if you like the 9's then the 25's should have a very similar sound. But for music the LSi's almost require a dead quiet room to get the most out of that tweeter so I wouldn't try and use them as a "frat house" speaker. But who knows. Maybe they'd do just fine. Probably better options out there though like the JBL's. Or maybe even the old RTi12's? Reasonable on CL.

I certainly agree 25's are more then most people need and the 15's (or even 9's) are all most would need but my main complaint with the 25's is they're just too darn tall (49 inches). But they do very well with two channel music in Pure Analog if you prefer a slightly darker mid-range and softer tweeter (meaning the opposite of bright) like I do. But like I said, I need the room to be whisper quiet.

I think I like the old LSi's a little bit better (not so much the LSi 7's though) then most around here, and elsewhere, and I'm going to miss them if they ever sell. I'd love to try the new LSiM's but they're just too much $$$, even the few that pop up on the used market.

Been looking long and hard at a large subwoofer, realize that I'll never even get close to the sound I want without it. My small Definitive complements my LSI9's ok but it is even a little lacking. Figure I'll step up to much larger sub to complement the big vegas first and see if that fills a gap?

Think I have it narrowed down to either a SVS PB-2000 or a HSU VTF-15 / their priced within a $80 of each other. Sounds like SVS has better customer service and warranty, which these days with all the outsourcing that IS a big deal. The HSU has a little better adjustability. SVS has a dual sub offer, may have to contact them and see if they would do a package price on a PB-1000 for my Polk room and a 2000 for my Vega room.

VTF15 with out a doubt... I have subs from both companies, I liked HS's customer service better, but both are top notch...

Is this for music only?

Do you believe or feel that the sub (more bass), will enable you to like the Cerwin Vegas better?
You may find that the Vegas may annoy you more. Just something to think about and weigh out.

Just a shallow hope, but as stated I know I need a sub for that big room so I'm going to start there and work it forward. Still need to bring my biger sub down from house and try it just to see how much it contributes to room. Just been too dang busy at work and around home to set aside time for leisure. Did speak to few techs yesterday on the phone about Bassing that big room and they both said "WOW" that is a big room and didn't feel that one sub even had a chance. One gentleman offered up a solution that had me very interested and the price point is about a wash. Make my own, go with 2 to 4 big 18"s and a Behringer EP2500 amp. Jumped over to Ebay and seen the amps and various 18 inch speakers. JBL, Peavey and a host of others offer them already in cabinets. Anyone have any input on going down this avenue ?

Finally brought the 1200 infinity down to test. I first swapped with the definitive and indeed have more bass. It's not as right but blends with the Polk 9s better. Played with gain and receiver settings and got it about as good as it can be. Never even tried the big room. Was going to be too tough to route cables just to test and it doesn't overwhelm game room so no need to even try a room 6 times larger. I took the definitive up to house and hooked to the home theater and wow was that a surprise. It outperformed the larger infinity. Guess all I canst is the infinity is more suited for music and the little definitive is far better theater sub.

Still would like to try some P.A. subs in big room but gonna sit tight for awhile and maybe something will come along
