I stumbled across Babymetal a few months ago when their video for "Gimme Chocolate" came up on my Xbox feed one day. I watched the video and at first was like, "What the hell is this???" But then I really listened to it and grew to love their music. It's a strange type of music to be sure, Japanese idol music mixed with heavy metal. Those 2 things shouldn't go together but it really works. Metal purists seem to HATE Babymetal with a passion and I can't say that I blame them. Teenage girls in gothic Lolita outfits don't seem very metal. But to each his own.
When they announced their "world" tour I knew I had to go. Unfortunately they only did one show in California but it was a solo show, (most of their other US dates were opening up for Lady Gaga) and LA isn't too far from the Bay Area so I went. Tickets sold out in about a minute because the venue was so small but that made for a great show since it was so intimate. I chose to buy balcony seats because I didn't want to deal with the mosh pit and other madness that goes on, on the floor.
The show was on a Sunday so I drove down on Saturday and stayed the night in Hollywood. Hollywood is a dump by the way, not all the glitz and glamour like you would think. I decided to walk by the theater on sunday morning to see how long it would take to walk there from the hotel. It was about 10am and there was already a line of about 50 people outside the theater!!! The show wasn't until 8pm and the doors didn't open until 6:30!
The balcony turned out to be surprisingly close. Unfortunately the theater only allowed point and shoot cameras but I was still able to get some decent shots. If I could have brought my 60D I could have got some really great pictures. Oh well.
