I stumbled across Babymetal a few months ago when their video for "Gimme Chocolate" came up on my Xbox feed one day. I watched the video and at first was like, "What the hell is this???" But then I really listened to it and grew to love their music. It's a strange type of music to be sure, Japanese idol music mixed with heavy metal. Those 2 things shouldn't go together but it really works. Metal purists seem to HATE Babymetal with a passion and I can't say that I blame them. Teenage girls in gothic Lolita outfits don't seem very metal. But to each his own.

When they announced their "world" tour I knew I had to go. Unfortunately they only did one show in California but it was a solo show, (most of their other US dates were opening up for Lady Gaga) and LA isn't too far from the Bay Area so I went. Tickets sold out in about a minute because the venue was so small but that made for a great show since it was so intimate. I chose to buy balcony seats because I didn't want to deal with the mosh pit and other madness that goes on, on the floor.

The show was on a Sunday so I drove down on Saturday and stayed the night in Hollywood. Hollywood is a dump by the way, not all the glitz and glamour like you would think. I decided to walk by the theater on sunday morning to see how long it would take to walk there from the hotel. It was about 10am and there was already a line of about 50 people outside the theater!!! The show wasn't until 8pm and the doors didn't open until 6:30!

The balcony turned out to be surprisingly close. Unfortunately the theater only allowed point and shoot cameras but I was still able to get some decent shots. If I could have brought my 60D I could have got some really great pictures. Oh well.

The venue was crazy hot. I heard the AC broke and one of the girls, Moa, actually passed out after the show. What a trooper though. You never would have guessed they were uncomfortable from the show they put on.

For all the metal heads that hate Babymetal, you can't deny that their band kicks major ass! I kinda feel sorry that they're kinda in the background while the girls get all the attention. The bass player, Boh is a bass playing God!

I just watch a video on YouTube... It's metal with babies.. so.. baby metal is a pretty legit name. Not sure why metalheadz would care, other than maybe being a little creeped out that the babies are dressed like sex objects...

A mod can fix it for you. Just don't ask Steve - he'll change it to "Babemetal" just to mess with you. :D

Metal heads cry that it's not REAL metal. Probably not but I like it.

I'm scared. I said when I was a kid "no matter what music comes out, I'll give it a chance so I'm not like the old people who say everything is ****" ... but I was not prepared for 12 year old girls being dressed up by talent agencies and a producer who calls himself Kobametal.

From Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babymetal According to Kobametal (the band's producer), Babymetal's name came to him by revelation (as a "divine message"). (divine message, or did you take some DMT? Come'on Kobametal.. tell the truth, you hit that DMT didn't you!?!? )
DMT experience in Gasper Noe's ENTER THE VOID: lol (filmed in Japan!)

That's the one that started it all for me.

I have to say that I am probably drawn to this because of my love for just about anything Japanese, (the culture, the language, especially the women;)). I think I must have been Japanese in a past life.
