The laptop will have a 2.5" drive. Those can be powered by USB. The 3.5" drives normally (or maybe always) can't be.

My brother has a dock like that, and I've thought about getting one. You make the call if that crosses over into crazy land. :D I didn't end up getting one because I got a Thunderbolt dock that works for that same purpose.
So a thunderbolt version of what I linked to? Can I get a link to what you're talking about? :D

Funny, I just (the other day) ordered one of: Amazon.com: StarTech.com USB 3.0 To SATA/IDE Hard Drive Adapter Converter (USB3SSATAIDE): Computers & Accessories
Won't be here until Thursday so I can't offer much more.
That's interesting. You'll have to let me know how it works. I'm going on vacation starting today and won't be back until next Sat so I have some time to figure out what I'm getting.

It's now Sunday we've finished for the week didn't get blown up or shot at 4 more towers to go then a communications room and we are done. Do miss seeing my family. Would love an ice cold Carlton draught

But, of course. :D It's not quite the same thing, though. The one that I got is designed to house specific Seagate drives, but it lends itself to being able to plug any bare drive into it. It just doesn't have a built in support ring, so you need to prop the drives up (a soda bottle top works great for 3.5" drives, and 2.5" drives are light enough to not need anything).

Do you get to go home early if you get all of the towers done early?

Also...enjoy your beer. :)

I was wondering if that was what you were talking about. They showed up in my search and I wasn't sure if they would work with bare drives. Good to know they will.

Yesterday, my AC compressor was making an abnormal buzzing noise. Today, I heard my AC compressor buzzing, looked outside, and the fan wasn't spinning. That's bad anywhere in summer...no different here. Swapped out the run capacitor, and all seems good. Phew. I was a bit nervous as I was working because I wasn't sure that would fix it, and the house had already gone up two degrees in about 30 minutes (it was around 3pm). My mind went back to ~2008 when the same thing happened but I didn't have a replacement part until the next morning, and the house got up near 90.

I tell you that all of that to explain why I had to change my pants this afternoon...

A/C in Arizona ... that's important. Life threatening to my way of thinking. How long can a human survive in 85+ degree temperatures? :D

Yeah, I've grown soft. :D Wait...that's not what I ...oh, forget it. :p

I grew up somewhat, let's say, not rich in Illinois, so I'm pretty familiar with hot and humid with no AC. I used to keep my AC here at 85, but I won't do that to Niki. It's crept down over the years, and now I keep it (normally) at about 77 for her. Kind of chilly to me, actually, but she breathes a lot harder when I keep it warmer, so...yeah, I'll keep it cooler. Last time it went out, I was pretty nervous (and, granted, rather sleep-deprived) the next morning when I got up around 5am and she hadn't moved in a few hours...and didn't move right away when I went up to her. She was decently younger then. When I came back in today after working on it, I could almost hear her saying, "S***, dawg. I thought we were going to have to go through that again. F*** THAT!" :D

This morning, I suddenly got the urge to do something with the concrete wall blocks that I picked up from a neighbor a few years back. I've got something like 15-20 of them, and they've been stacked in my garage. I decided to use four of them to make a little flat area next to the concrete slab on the side of my garage to set my recycle bin on. Sure, pavers would have been a lot easier, as these blocks are 3.5" thick and required me to dig down a bit to make them level with the slab, but by golly...I was motivated...and I didn't have any spare pavers.

So, in the end, I did use four of them. Yet, the pile in the garage remains...

Sure do. The first one took 11 days to do,
Second was 7.
So they'll be up in a mater of a couple of weeks. Started doing the communications shed/office witch ever you prefer to call it.
Frame is up just have to hang the walls inside and out.

Beer was grate had a helicopter drop off some things from Australia etc some mail letters from family and a few photos.

Thus far we've been getting double time every day. And it's just sitting in the bank cause there's no place to spend it around here. But tonight is roast night back at base so I'm a bit excited for that.

This is so annoying. My apartment and the road it's on are brand new, only about 3 or 4 months since their completion. Because they're so new the address isn't in anyone's database so I've had to contact several places by phone just to verify that it's a real place.

Removing the compressor was a challenge. My ex-mechanic had snapped one of the bolts which now acts as a stud or post which was seized in the compressor housing making it hold the compressor in place even after the two healthy(er) bolts were removed. Now the manifold bolt in the compressor has to come out in order for me to reuse the compressor. That's a $200 bolt. If I can't get it out ... reman compressor. Should I just get the reman anyway?

I've got enough grease on my DeWalt impact that it's really no longer house grade.

If I get a new compressor then I'll have to worry about doing a re&re on the clutch. That is a whole separate @ssache. No ... the bolt must come out. My hand held impact is down at Eddie's. I think I need that because the bolt is worn and rusted to the point that one of those Craftsman bolt extractor sockets is on it. Downward force from a hammer strike is going to be what it takes to keep the socket on and continually biting the bolt ... but how hard can I hit this sh!t?.

Maybe boring to you but driving around in August like a Sweat Hog isn't any fun either. I don't want to drive to Eddie's.

Pft, you can hit it pretty hard. :p Try and hit it right on the center though (less chance of breaking the ratchet or socket).

Another option if the extractor doesn't work is to drill it out and re-thread. :/

I assume you've tried Coke and all that? Regular Coke is good at getting stuck bolts to go...

Get some Never-Seeze for when you tighten it all down.

"If it don't fit, force it. If it breaks, needed a new one anyways." ;)

Edit #2: I just re-read and saw the bolt head is snapped off.
Is the head or manifold aluminum? (where the bolt is)
In your case. (you probably tried this already) I'd soak it in Liquid Wrench, repeatedly, for as long as you can.
Use a breaker bar or pipe on the end of socket or wrench to get as much leverage as you can fit in there.
If you can fit a drift pin right on top of the stud, I'd hit that with a hammer a few good shots, along with the liquid wrench.

The best way to get a bolt like that out is heat.
Usually 02 & acetylene. It will take ten seconds; you have to get the bolt red. I've had it work even using a small atctylene (yellow tank) The real stubborn, rusted bolts have to be red hot and the come right out.

Edit: Bring to one of those outdoor car washes with the spray wand. Wash all the grease off the engine first.
I know how you hate to get messy.:D
Good luck, at least you have nice weather.
