Seeking advice for integrated amp for Tannoy Eyris 3 Speakers

Hi There,

I'm new and sorry to post a question as my first post, but I currently have a set of Tannoy Eyris 3 speakers with these ratings:

Frequency range:.38HZ-44khz
Continuous power:110W
Peak power: 360W
Recommended power:20W-150W
Sensitivity: 90dB at 1W/1m
8 ohms

I found a great deal on the Rega Brio R amp but it only pushes 50W per channel.

I am a poor man so will this amp push these speakers ok in a medium room where I won't be blasting too often, and will this damage the speakers quicker, because I want this system to last a long time. Any opinions or suggestions for a integrated amp for these speakers that won't break the bank too bad would be very helpful.

Thanks for any advice and glad to find this place!!!

50 watts will go fairly loud but it could still run out of juice fairly easily if you pumped it. From your manual:

"As with all loudspeaker systems, the power handling is a function of voice coil thermal capacity. Care should be taken to avoid overdriving any amplifier, as this will cause output overload resulting in 'clipping' or distortion within the output signal. This, if done for any extended period, will cause damage to the speakers.

Generally an amplifier of higher power that is running hard, but free of distortion, will
do less damage to the loudspeaker than a lower power amplifier continually clipping.

Remember also that a high powered amplifier running at less than 90% of output power generally sounds a great deal better than a lower powered example struggling to achieve 100%. An amplifier with insufficient drive capability will not allow the full performance of the loudspeakers to be realised."

What's your budget, and where are you?

$750 and under would be my budget (I'm broke due to wife :) ) Thanks for your input mark. I had read that in the manual which is one of the reasons I had concerns over the rega brio r only having 50W but I had a friend who offered it to me for 350 bucks so I was wondering. Thanks for any input.

I believe the Brio R is the current model, and not that old? At any rate, it has a great rep even if it's only 50 watts. For a medium sized room, you could be fine as long as you don't over tax the amp, and that is the issue. I find that 90db is pretty loud, and in your room that might be drawing 6-8 watts per channel, depending on your listening distance. If you can be happy with that you should be okay with the Rega. I guess the question is, what's loud to you?

That price is also pretty good, used they are listed at 500+.

Accessories4less generally has great buys on almost anything if you don't mind facory authorized and guaranteed refurbs. But, Marantz integrateds seem to be a bit in short supply right now. They are currently sold out of a 100 wpc Marantz but they do have units from Yamaha and Onkyo currently available.

I think you are better off with a new $400 Denon X2000 AVR that can output about 120WPC x 2Ch into 8 ohms and about 150WPC x 2Ch into 4 ohms @ 1% THD. It will sound every bit as great as an integrated amp. The Denon will probably measure better than the Integrate amp.

If you are really poor, the $300 Denon X1000 AVR will probably output 100WPC into 8 ohms and also sound as good as the integrate amp.

I forgot about accessories4less, I agree that Marantz would also be a great option for new gear.

Thanks guys for the input ! I would go without an integrated but I have a rega ps3 and I play about half vinyl half CDs and bray so I wanted something with a great phono stage built in which attracts me to the brio r. Sorry I'm such a noob shark but are you saying with 6-8 watts I would be greeting 90 db that would be great for me and that wouldn't wear out the amp due to heat of so much excessive heat right ? Thanks guys for all the input

Yeah, you would be getting around 90db's at 10-12 feet distance. At that point you would still have the option to turn it up somewhat and still not be overdriving the amp. I'm not sure how warm Regas run, but you wouldn't be pushing it. And 90 db tends to be too loud for me, it's getting unpleasant by then. Might not be the same for you.
