You're right and I did not mean to cast aspersions on all and every gun owner. Maybe it's just me - I just can't wrap my head around the desire/need to carry firearms around in public (law-enforcement excepted).
It's interesting. I've been going down to Florida, on and off, for 20 years. I'm by no means an expert, however that's just my level of experience down there.
Florida is a right to carry state, and has a more opened attitude toward guns than my state.
I've yet to see anyone carrying a gun, no shoot outs or road rage.
Point being, if gun violence was as rampant as the media and Hollywood has brainwashed us to believe. I think I would experienced something.

All I know, is that if I and my family get caught up in an incident where a concerned citizen uses a gun to stop a criminal and shoots one of my family by accident, he had better have a round left for me, cause I'm coming after him - I won't care what his motivation was.
I hope you feel the same way towards the criminals.:D
Kidding aside.
Emotional knee jerk reactions, all with hope to quickly fix and cure what's wrong.
I'm afraid that's what our society and human nature has been conditioned to do.
Politicians just love those emotions in their voters and followers.
So they can gain more power, influence, that equates to money for them.
All to fix what wrong with human nature.
Get us hooked on an emotional issue; distract us so we won't wonder where all the money is going.:D

Number ONE distraction: guns kill people. WRONG. BAD people with (or without) guns kill people.

Wanna talk about irony?

To show how good not having guns works, this store was robbed at gunpoint after posting a "No Guns Allowed" sign.

See link here for the details.

As you indicated earlier, one only has to look at those cities with the most strident gun laws to see how well those laws work...Chicago, DC, L.A., etc....all communities with the highest rates of gun violence.

This is an emotional, not a rational issue. I'm not exactly sure why. Each person can choose what is right for them, but I'm not sure why people have such strong feelings about what's right for me. Forget criminals... by definition, they break the law. I'm talking about responsible law abiding adults. Why do people care if I carry a gun?

If I hurt someone with my car, I am held responsible. If I hurt someone with my gun, I am held responsible. If I hurt someone with anything, I am held responsible. So what is it about guns that sets them apart? Ignorance? Media indoctrination? Why do some people who would be completely comfortable around me, suddenly become afraid if they know I have a gun in my pocket?

Would they feel the same fear if they found out I was some kind of martial arts guru and could kill them 10 different ways with my little finger? I just don't get it.

Having a gun is indeed a great equalizer. I can be old, fat, have a bad back, and still have the chance to defend myself against a young gym rat. Why do some people so fiercely want to take that away from me? Unless they plan to do me harm, what are they afraid of?

All the statistics and reasoning in the world are meaningless in the gun debate. It is pure emotion. Why?
