I agree, to me it was perhaps the best sporting event ever, but the 75 cats are too expensive, so they're looking to change to rules to employ 60 to 65 feet cats, so hopefully there will be more challengers next time around, and hopefully more or less same good to watch :D

60 is fine...they just need to be big. 35 or 45 foot boats just don't have the same visual impacts as the bigger cats up on their foils. Viewership increased dramatically last year even before the epic comeback. I think that was largely due to the awesome spectical on the water. I'd like to see them mix the course up a bit. The out and back is a bit boring, but overall... it was one of the best events I've ever watched. The last couple races took place while we were on our cruise. i had them turn it on in the one of the lounges and by the second time there were about 75 people glued to the screeen.

Size is one thing, reuse another, I think alse there's a strategy to force one-design into some of the components, like the solid structure mainsail, that I believe can take 20.000+ man hours to make, so a big factor in cost reduction is to implement standard tooling for mainsail and other stuff too, so they can and will have to reuse some of the costly components.... it's crazy that some teams should have employed more than 30 designers on full time on their payroll....
