Reminds me of a war story. Circa 2004, we were flying our Raven (UAV) way way WAY too low over Sadr City (Iraq) trying to ID weapons in a crowd when we suddenly lost the feed. Hmmm, what happened? No clue...
A couple of weeks later an interpreter came in asking if we lost a UAV. I debriefed the guy and he explained that a UAV was flying super low (alerting everyone in the city due to it's lawnmower like sound) and that EVERYONE in the city (including little old ladies with AK 47s) was shooting at it. Finally, someone who "knew what they were doing" came out with an RPK (heavy machine gun similar to the M60/240B) and took it down. At this point, the crowd descended upon it and "tore it to pieces". Ah, war!
What's even funnier is that the other battalion commanders were giving our commander crap/talking trash about the situation so we were banned from flying missions.
