Hey Guys,

I am new to the forum, but I thought I would ask for your advise. my lamp went out on my Mitubishi HC 4000. the replacement is a good chunk of change. The projector is over 2 and half years old, wondering if i should just buy a new one or just buy a new bulb..

Thanks for your advise :)

Thanks for the link, the issue is I am in canada, not sure they ship up here. my local av store priced it at 449.00 for a new bulb. starting to sound way too much. Never bought a bulb before so not sure which websites i can trust.

It's a light bulb. You could buy 3 of the knock offs for the same price. No way the one your dealer has last as long as 3 of the others. Now if you want to upgrade that's a different story. I'd just get the 150 dollar lamp and move on. You'll be fine.

I ordered a replacement lamp for my DLP television from dynamiclamps.com. I got what I ordered reasonably fast in perfect condition, so I think they'd be a good source for your replacement. I just poked someone via their website chat and asked whether they ship to Canada. They do, but it's via USPS so it might take a couple of weeks to arrive. Here's OEM bulb + housing for considerably less than you were quoted locally. (Change "Economy bulb" to "Original bulb".)

Edit: I just chatted with someone at BSA's projectorlamps.com link and asked the same question. She said yes, they ship to Canada. Just choose the $28.50 USPS shipping method on checkout.

Hmmm.

Order from a website or overpay by 3x what you should pay and make a dealer rich. Decisions, decisions :p

If you happen to live in DFW I'll gladly sell you a lamp for your projector for 350.:D

Even if you did buy an upgrade it would be worth buying the lamp and selling the old projector. The resale value on projectors is not bad (even better with new bulbs). Way better than trashing the thing. I sold my Epson 8350 for 850 and only paid 1250 new. TVs are a much harder resale since there are a ton and they are cheap (er).

When was that. Not sure why people would pay 850 for an Epson 8350, when the new model is only like 900.

I sold it in August 2012. Bought it new for 1250 in Dec 2011. Had a new lamp in it when I sold it. First one went after 1800 hrs. Sold on craigslist. Man I have been in FL longer then I thought. Crazy. Sold it before I moved. The new model was not out at when I sold it. The 8350 was still their main stream offering.
