I just got an email confirming that when my prime renews is July the rate is increasing from $79 to $99.
My rate increases in July 2014. So check your renewal dates!

I shop on amazon a lot so I feel like the discounted prices I get probably even out the membership fee.
I will probably still come out ahead but not sure. Its probably still worth it

Well prime might not be as good as we think... Amazon encourages price hiking for prime products
I think that article addresses what others here have said - that the total price from third party merchants is sometimes lower than the Prime price. Now that Amazon charges tax in my state, that disparity can be even larger on some items. That said, I still prefer to order from Amazon directly. I like the relative certainty of delivery dates with Prime, and I love their outstanding customer service. If I receive a defective or damaged item, they'll send out a replacement with free next day shipping and provide a prepaid shipping label for the return.

So, I tend to know when I'm paying more on Amazon, but I do it anyway because I'm more confident that I'll be happy with the purchase at the end. I don't think anyone should consider Prime shipping to be free. Rather, they should look at the total overall cost of the items, their Prime membership, and whatever other Prime services they use. To me, it's well worth the annual cost.

I don't know how to address the part of the proposed law suit that involves Amazon's practices in the matter, but they exist to make money and not to save me money. Honestly, I hope that Amazon wins that one. Maybe they'd have to refund a small portion of the membership costs, but they sure shouldn't have to refund them all.

I'm at a measly 84, and that's with them counting all Subscribe and Save items as separate orders. I'm so ashamed. :D

Btw, 263 orders?! That's pretty darn impressive, Phillip!

Update to this - ended up with 350 orders in 2013. Only 75 so far for 2014 :)

Anyway, the prime price increase seems more than fair to me. It's definitely still worth it.

Great googly moogly! I ended up with 104 (again, that's counting each product separately and not how many boxes I got...so I got fewer boxes).

Checking the order report for actual line items shipped gives me 454 line items and a total quantity of 546. I think I buy too much crap online D:

Is there a quick way to check how many shipments were made? When I show orders in a year, I'm pretty sure that it's just giving me individual product orders (which can be more than one of that thing). So, if I order three different items that all ship together, it shows it as three orders.

I dunno about a quick way, but when I looked at my order report for 2013 I just deleted any lines that didn't say shipped for me to get the number of line items shipped. To show individual shipments you'd have to delete duplicate tracking numbers which would probably be a pain in the butt.

Not sure what the furor is for. Like any retailer, Amazon Prime says, "We'll sell you this product, for this much money, and have it to you in 2 business days". If you like what they offer and are willing to pay $99/year for it, buy it. If not, shop somewhere else. So what's all the complaining about, and why is it news?

There's a furor? Seems like most responses say that the price increase isn't a big deal.
