That's an expensive protest...

Talk about oops. Local artist destroys $1M priceless vase protesting a lack of support for local artists. I don't care how angry you are, destroying someone else's art is certainly the wrong way to go about it, regardless of the value of the art. Clearly he did it intentionally and clearly he had no idea what he was dealing with. Hopefully the penalties are stiff for this moron.

Sounds like a case of sour grapes due to his lack of success.

Yeah, if you break anything of mine it too is worth a million dollars. :D

If you're good looking I will consider taking it out in trade.

I think he is trying to say he did this for local artists just to cover up his stupidity. Now he wishes he went to home depot and bought a vase to do this...

1) why would a priceless han vase be painted like that? (i mean, it was ruined when it was painted like that)
2) why would a million dollar vase be accessible?

somethings amiss.

but if the vase was a dollar or a million dollars ... the guy should really pay for it in jailtime.

Well, you know with art value isn't always apparent. Why they were painted like that, I don't know either, but that's probably part of the display. Why they were sitting there in reach of people is beyond me too, but they did say this was part of the first season for this art gallery and they are trying to bring people in by having significant displays.

It is sort of like the time I went to a car show and there was a very special Ferrari on display, just out in the open too. It came with its own security guard... It was Phil Hill's personal car and one of only a few of these left in the world. I was talking to the guard and he said at the time, the car was worth $9 million! That price tag AND owned and raced by Phil Hill...sitting right there in front of me  As I'm taking pictures, some idiot lady walks up and opens the trunk....the guard politely tells her "That's not a good idea; please don't touch the car." A similar car to that recently sold for over $30 million and I think Phil's is likely worth more than that then because of its history.

...
It might have been painted with a water-based paint that would come off with just water, so it may not have been ruined by having been painted.

Having been painted like that, it is easy to understand that someone would not recognize it for what it was. Regardless, he should pay for it.

Funny, I thought that when you protest something, you destroy your own stuff, not someone elses. After all, in the good old sixties, the feminists burned their own bras and young men burned their own draft cards. ...how times have changed.
