Did you know that most Americans still own a VCR?

I still have one. But it is in its box in my closet, because I needed some space on my equipment rack and was no longer actually using it. And it has no resale value, so there is little point in getting rid of it. If I needed the space in my closet, then I would probably take it to Good Will, or ask people I know if any of them wanted it. It is a good one, that gave me a noticeably better picture than any I had owned in the past. And it is cheapest, flimsiest VCR I ever owned as well. I bought it toward the end of using VCRs, because I wanted to be able to watch the tapes I had when my previous VCR died. Comparing it to earlier models that I had really shows that sturdiness and performance can have little to do with each other.

Yeah, the last generation (late 90's/early 00's) were cheap, small, light, had great sound, and performed great. ...and I loved that VCR+.

I know I have one somewhere, maybe two.

I probably have 3 or 4 in a closet somewhere. Haven't used them since the late 90s though :)

At my ex-wife's work place they have a ton of VHS tapes. I had offered to digitize them onto DVDs so she could get rid of the VCR... She didn't accept my offer since folks were (are) constantly dropping off more tapes.

Hey! I still use checks. But that's because I firmly believe US banks totally suck when it comes to online security.

My VCR died a bit ago. I have yet to unplug it. I think we have a second one in the basement somewhere.

Ironically, my kids got a VCR tape for Christmas from someone. They didn't know what it was.

Wow, are you kidding me, checks.......

I started working in 1985, and by then mostly everyone had ATM cards, and checks were made obsolete in the late 1970's I think.....
Never saw a checkbook in my life...... seems like stoneage to me

I never use checks unless I have to. I do take checks from my roommates/renters though :)

You know, there's laws about using other peoples checks. ;)

But, yeah, I still use checks. Nothing like being able to get a front/back copy of a cashed check with a time/date cashed stamp on it to quash many issues. (Stereophile magazine, are you listening?) This have come in handy more than you can imagine when a creditor says he wasn't paid.

...and they'll have to take my Motorola Razr flip phone from my cold, dead hands. Unless it dies. Then I'm screwed.

How else are people going to watch all those old porn collections? LOL j/k.

The only actual VHS tapes we have are family stuff that hasn't been transferred to digital, and those haven't been watched in years. Only reason the VCR is still around.

Never owned a VCR (DVD's were prevalent by the time I had enough money to buy one) but I still use checks. Main instance is for my garbage and water because those services charge you money to pay online where I live.

Are you asking all of us to move to Norway? Are you going to vouch for us and get us in, and see that we find acceptable employment? You would use checks if you lived in a society in which checks were necessary. In my lease, it is stipulated that I pay by check. Now, would you have a checking account and pay with checks, or would you prefer being homeless?

With many of my bills, I pay them electronically, either manually or automatically. It is often best that way, but not with all of my bills. Some require checks, like my rent.

I also sometimes use cash to pay for things. That is even more old-fashioned than checks. Do you still use cash in Norway? If so, you are using one of the oldest forms of payment possible, far less modern than checks. The only older way would be bartering.
