faceplate material quality is down.

if the amp section is all they are hopefully scrimping on. i wish they would just go ahead and release a "pre-pro" version that's a lot cheaper with absolutely NO amp section.
I would go for that.

That would be nice, and i don't know why they do not do that you would think they would sell more because people would have another road to take.

Only problem with that is that people expect a pre/pro to do everything and the demand for such a cheap preamp is not very high.

they (yammy for example) have a million models like the 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 series. nix one of those and replace it with a pure pre-pro.

Choice is not ours, it is a profit decision.

Separate pre-amps or pre/pros is not a productive business, it's all about money, not the client's desire.
[Might is well build your own.]

If you have to choose between these three systems, which one it would be?

1. Yamaha > http://hometheatermag.com/compactspeakers/1207yam4000/

2. Panasonic > http://hometheatermag.com/hometheaterinabox/1008panahtib/

3. Onkyo > http://hometheatermag.com/hometheaterinabox/onkyo_ht-s9100thx_integrated_system/

Hmm... I know which one for me. :)

Option 4.. Save, scrimp , borrow, and beg until you have enough shekles to purchase a good system.....;)

Panasonic HTIB total system.

I personally demo the Panasonic system (#2), very impressive, complete with multichannel power amp (quite powerful too), subwoofer (not bad at all), great integrated Blu-ray player (excellent picture), and wireless remote surround speakers (works extremely well). The total surround immersion and power of that system will blow you away. Oh, and bamboo speaker's drivers too.

Total score (from me), out of 10, I'll give it a 9. :)

* I never heard the Onkyo system, but I'll bet it will be as good if not better, but less the subwoofer and Blu-ray player, and the wireless surround speakers, and the bamboo drivers.
But an all THX system though. :)

So, all in all, that Panny system is hard to beat for a HTIB integrated system.
