I understand the basic principals of how a speaker works but, I dont have the understanding of how to pick out one component(who's crossovers/woofers/midranges/tweeters should I use for example) from another. What questions should I be asking to pick out the components, I know my reciever's limitations but how does that determine what I choose for equipment to build the loadspeakers.

If you are new to speaker building a kit is the best way to start. There are lots of books on designing and building speakers, that's also a good place to start. Parts-Express has lots of speaker kits and how to books.

LDC (Loudspeaker Design Cookbook) by Vince Dickason can be a little hard to understand when you don't have any experience in speaker building. I would recommend you Speaker Building 201...
