Movie Prop and Collectible Web Sites

First time poster with a quick question. I ordered something from a vendor listed on this thread. A movie poster from All Movie Replicas to be exact. After ordering the item, checking out and receiving an email confirming, I then received an email a little later stating that the price had gone up due to the distributor raising the price. Is this a normal practice when purchasing movie posters and collectibles?

Sounds fishy to me. I googled complaints for them but couldn't find any. Generally, raising the price after ordering is a huge warning sign for me. Let's see if anyone else has ordered from them successfully before we pass judgment though. Major should have something to say before too long.

WOW, I've never had that happen before. What was the item? Many of these items are very limited production (Master Replicas and Sideshow items). Advance orders or "in-stock" orders should be at the listed prices.

I would say no, that isn't normal. Try http://www.moviegoods.com. I ordered a few posters from them and had no problems during the transaction.

The item in question is a 300 movie poster double sided print. I know that they can be limited in quantity, but not that rare. I cancelled the order today and haven't heard a response from them yet. Thanks for the advice and links. I felt odd making my first post a complaint/question. Thanks again.

I don't blame you for cancelling the order. The cost for posters shouldn't change. The items I'm talking about are handmade prop replicas like Sideshow, Master Replicas and Xscape props. They are normally less than 2,000 worldwide. Some items are only 500 item editions. It's not unusual to wait a year or more when placing an advance order for prop replicas with Sideshow. Even then they sell out before the first item ships.

I'll delete All Movie Replicas from the list if they're a problem. Besides, I'm sure it's time to update the list.

Isn't this it's opening weekend? I bet the raised the price for that reason but didn't update their website to reflect it. Still a shady way of doing business.

Yeah it's opening weekend of the film. Maybe people are expecting a big rush for 300 items and are pricing accordingly. I'm trying to get some posters together for my eventual home theater and thought that the 300 poster would make a good addition. I always try to give people the benefit of the doubt, but in this case it's tough.

Upping the Price after Ordering

Hi, I think you did the right thing in cancelling. I've had the price go up on me by my wholesaler when I've been selling and I've just ended up making no profit, but I'd never have asked the customer to pay more.

BTW, is it OK to mention some things I've got for sale here? My wholesaler has had a special on loads of Star Wars Master Replicas stuff, like the Force FX lightsabres, the .33 blasters, the .45 lightsabres, even some of the limited edition full-size blasters and lightsabres. They've even got the Darth Vader Dual Signature Helmet, but that's not on a special. If anyone's interested, I can put a full list here or is there somewhere else I'm supposed to put 'for sale' notices?

You may post a link to your website here as long as it relates to the thread. I started this thread just to help people decorate their theaters. Unless I've personally dealt with the company I don't endorse any of them.

As far as posting items for sale, once you hit 25 posts you can start posting in the classified section.

Major,

Find anything 300 related that has peeked your interest? I'm thinking about picking up a few of these 8x10 photos and putting them in one 27x40 frame.

A life size Spartan Shield would be the shizzle.:p

You know, you really should stop asking me to find these things! I just happened to be looking at these a little while ago.
