Monitors to check out:
Harbeth P3-ESR. I really like these speakers - amazing mids - neutral and very "even" sounding. Check out the Harbeth site and the user group forum. The designer goes into detail about how he approaches design, and vehemently suggests NOT getting caught up in cables/amps/tweaks...
Nola Boxer. I read some nice reviews on these, I just checked them out today. These are great sounding monitors - The bass has nice control, the soundstage is wide open – great detail. According to the store, they can’t keep them in stock. I preferred them to the B&W 805s that were in the same room.
Dynaudio Focus. I heard the 110s and the Excite X-12 the other day, I liked the 110s, but not the Excites – I need to bring some of my own music in and check them out again.
Proac - It's been a few years, but I've heard the Studio 100s (in both a store and a recording studio) and the Tablette 2000 - excellent monitors, worth checking out.
Active Monitors – I've listened to Dynaudio BM 5A MkII’s and Adam A3X, A5X. I preferred the Adams – The Dyn’s had great bass, but they were too boom and sizzle – the Adams on the other hand, fleshed out the mids a lot better. Dynaudio-wise I much prefer the AIR’s… Genelecs – I have to listen to them all day long at work – build quality is nice, but I just don’t like their tonal balance…
Anyway, as you can tell, I’m looking for new monitors – for my room and needs, the Harbeths are highest on the list right now… Hope this helps.
