I've sold my paradigm reference 60's (v.3) and looking for a bookshelf of equal or better performance. I have a very short list and looking for additional options when I go test. Any suggestions or feedback on the two below? Looking for others in the same performance range. I will be adding a sub in the future.

Joseph Audio RM7XL. I auditioned them against the S2 with the same gear and preferred the RM7.

If you can wait a month and a half, helpful reports should be coming in regarding the 8 models in this comparo .... http://forums.audioholics.com/forums/showthread.php?t=67150&highlight=2010+gtg

Aperion Audio - 6B... http://www.aperionaudio.com/product/...11,20,257.aspx

Ascend Acoustics - Sierra-1 NrT... http://forum.ascendacoustics.com/showthread.php?t=4088 (Please note that this new Ascend flagship model was announced only last week. It is in its late development state. If it is not yet available for the September 18th event, we believe Ascend will instead be sending the Sierra-1.)

Lauren Acoustics - One B ... http://www.laurenacoustics.com/Lauren_Acoustics/The_One_B.html (Please note that this model from a new company, as far as we're aware, has never been seen or heard publicly.)

Nate's Audio - T5... http://www.natesaudio.com/naproducts_t05.html

Salk Sound - Ellis 1801B ... http://www.salksound.com/ellis 1801b - home.htm

Selah Audio - Verita ... http://www.selahaudio.com/id216.html (Please note that the shipping fees are included in the $2,050 product cost.)

Tyler Acoustics - Limited Edition Taylo ... http://www.tyleracoustics.com/taylo.html (Please note that this Taylo model is not in the company's current lineup. Tyler Acoustics will be making a run of Limited Edition Taylos at <$2,000 which will run concurrently with our event.)

Usher Audio - X-718 ... http://www.usheraudio.com/Loudspeaker_X-718.html (Please note that Usher is not strictly an ID company. However, it's models can be difficult to find to audition in many places. It seems to fit well with the other speakers listed here, so we decided to include the X-718.)

For that price I'd rather buy active monitors with active crossover. The list would be long but for the kicks:
M-Audio Studiophile DSM1, DSM3, DSM3
DSM3 are outstanding IMHO
Dynaudio - BM 15A Active Studio Monitor
NHT = M-00 is one class under M-audio/Dynaudio for 500$/pair

With the above you get active crossover - it is worth it, give it a try.

Monitors to check out:

Harbeth P3-ESR. I really like these speakers - amazing mids - neutral and very "even" sounding. Check out the Harbeth site and the user group forum. The designer goes into detail about how he approaches design, and vehemently suggests NOT getting caught up in cables/amps/tweaks...

Nola Boxer. I read some nice reviews on these, I just checked them out today. These are great sounding monitors - The bass has nice control, the soundstage is wide open – great detail. According to the store, they can’t keep them in stock. I preferred them to the B&W 805s that were in the same room.

Dynaudio Focus. I heard the 110s and the Excite X-12 the other day, I liked the 110s, but not the Excites – I need to bring some of my own music in and check them out again.

Proac - It's been a few years, but I've heard the Studio 100s (in both a store and a recording studio) and the Tablette 2000 - excellent monitors, worth checking out.

Active Monitors – I've listened to Dynaudio BM 5A MkII’s and Adam A3X, A5X. I preferred the Adams – The Dyn’s had great bass, but they were too boom and sizzle – the Adams on the other hand, fleshed out the mids a lot better. Dynaudio-wise I much prefer the AIR’s… Genelecs – I have to listen to them all day long at work – build quality is nice, but I just don’t like their tonal balance…

Anyway, as you can tell, I’m looking for new monitors – for my room and needs, the Harbeths are highest on the list right now… Hope this helps.

After some research I thought Dynaudio focus 140 was inline with what I like but at almost half the price and equal to or better in performance I may go with Ascend Sierra 1's but wish i could listen before ordering. I also plan on getting emotiva preamp and amp. shipping back could get expensive if i dont like them. I'd like to take a look/listen at the PSB imagine B's.

I will either get 2 emotiva upa-1's (or the next gen) or a parasound 2250. Preamp will be either emotiva usp-1(or next gen) or a parasound 2100. I am not committed to these, I thought they have good performance for the money.

Either choice is a sound one.

If you don't mind used, and want no holds barred performance, take a look at the Celestion SL600. It employs very high quality drivers in a cast aluminum honeycomb cabinet that is virtually non resonant.

The SL600 is semi-rare, and typically goes for a used price of around $700-1000 depending on the condition.

The SL6 and SL6Si are more common and have a wood cabinet of high quality. The going used prices on these range from $300-500 depending on condition. Again, excellent monitors. They are easier to find in good condition as well.

If you ever see a pair of Celestion Kingston for a good price, pick them up. They are super rare, and an excellent monitor.
